“What a wonderful experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2012

We stayed for 7 nights at the Heritage Telfair, we chose this hotel for its kids club from 2 years old. My youngest daughter was 2.5 at the time and she is very reserved so we werent sure if she would even go to the kids club! Well Linda and her team were unbelievable, both our kids fell into Linda's welcoming arms. All the ladies at the kids club were so good to them and when we they werent at the kids club our kids would ask us if they could please go to Linda's house!

Besides the kids club being a huge success and my husband and I spending heaps of time catching up after a busy work year, there was so much to do within the resort and the Heritage Awali situated next door! Everyone was so good to us and it was a great experience. We gymed everyday in a well equipped gym, went to the spa (included free facilities)' went cycling out of the resort, did pilates and ate delicious food! The boat house had lots of included water sports and we canoe'd everyday! It was so easy to have a healthy, relaxing holiday.

We chose half board which i think was a good option! Alchohol is very expensive but we took wine and had wine in our room on the balcony. Lunch was expensive too but it still worked out cheaper than choosing the full board option! I drink and my husband doesnt so i probably could have benefited from a full board option that woukd have included alchohol but im glad i didnt over indulge.

What a wonderful memorable holiday, the Activities with the kids, the activities with the kids on their own and the adukt activities were great! Food was great, staff went over and above. absolutely loved everything. I cant say enough about our exceptional experience....oh actually we were there in their winter so it wasnt as expensive as their summer but then again the weather wasnt absolutely wonderful either but that was okay for us! X

Room Tip: We had interleading rooms, kids in one and us in the other! Would have been nice to be on the beach...

We stayed here for 10 nights starting 18th september our 1st time and not the last hopefully to mauritius, a beautiful island with some of the friendliest people we have ever met.

It was a special holiday for a big birthday and we couldnt have chosen better
On arrival we were greeted with a cocktail and cold towel and were introduced to stephane one of the managers.
We were then introduced to salim who was to be our butler for the duration and went out of his way to make this holiday very special. Salim took us to our room which was an ocean butler suite we were completely blownn away the room was stunning and had every comfort you needed for the holiday. The highlight being the outdoor shower and patio directly on the beach - stunning.
We were on the gourmet bliiss package which i would highly recommend as the drinks are quite expensive. The food was exceptional always well cooked and well presented, we ate in all the restaurants apart from ginja, it is diffiicult to chose a favourite. The breakfast had everysingle thing you could think of i could have gone over the top with the pastries , We also did the boma african themed evening which was good fun and met some lovely people. The c club is also a nice addition to the resort we had lunch here on a few days they do a wonderful caesar salad.
Salim arranged a private bbq on the beach for us which was absolutely fantastic and the highlight of the holiday, fantastic food under the stars being serenaded by shane on his guitar.
Ithe hotel exceeded our expectaions on all levels, staff, service, food, location, rooms we couldnt fault anything.
I would love to stay here again.
Thanks everyone for making the holiday so special ,

Playing 18 holes almost every day with a gorgous look over the pacific ocean - what else can there be? A lot - if you stay in Le Telfair. We were transferred from the hotel to the club and back anytime we wanted, our clubs polished to shine everytime, the course in perfect shape - and never crowed! At the hotel everybody was so eager to help and make the stay a perfect and romantic holiday: from surprise rosebathes to surprise rumdrinks to the feeling of being really welcome in Ile Maurice. We played tennis, swam (ocean! wonderful), went skorkeling, and made a great catamaran trip with delicious food (booked at the hotel) - all wishes fulfilled! The food was great, we especially liked, that you can see, what you´re going to eat before ordering. And the gentlemen at the kitchen were never tired to explain what you see. So: let´s make it short (at last): it is golfers paradise there. We´ll sure be back. Hopefully soon.

Room Tip: Take a junior suite. Butlers service is worth it.

Was fantastic in every way. The food, location, service, bedrooms, beach, pool, gardens were all faultless. My wife our two boys (9 and 7) enjoyed the two weeks in every extend. Many of the entertainment activities (wakeboard, watersky, snorkling, billiard, table tennis, tennis...) were free of charge and in our package as well the golf.
End of september, beginning october was perfect for us as temparature was around 25°C and not yet many tourists (beeing in the hotel or elsewhere on the island).
Next time - and we will go again for sure - we will book full package or even all inclusive as with our half board we had to pay of course for lunch and this was expensive.

Room Tip: as family you can easaly ask for two rooms which are connected. With kids I would take rooms which a...

This was our first visit to Mauritius and our 10 night stay at Le Telfair was absolutely outstanding in every respect. While the beautiful location is memorable, it was the exceptional level of genuine and sincere service you receive from everyone involved that was most striking. The tone clearly comes from the top because when running late for a golf tee time one morning, the General Manager of the hotel happened to be outside the main door in his car and whisked us to the golf club in time !

The rooms were extremely comfortable (how often can you find a Nespresso machine in your room to make proper coffee in the morning ?) and while we did not have a sea view, our room was very quiet and private. The hotel and grounds are immaculately maintained and beautifully set out.

The choice of food at the various restaurants ensured you never tired of the menus and was generally of high quality. Our favourite place to eat was the Chateau and do try and sit outside on the terrace to enjoy this wonderful old residence. Gin'ja and Cyan were also outstanding with the latter being better for lunch than dinner.

The Cavendish bar for drinks in the evening is a must and the snooker room is a wonderful touch of tradition.

The spa is one of the best we have ever used and the facilities outstanding. Lying in the open air spa pool at night and looking up at the stars was all part of the experience.

Every conceivable water sport is on offer but often the low tide will preclude certain activities such as windsurfing during certain parts of the day. Not a major problem though as still plenty to do. We also had great fun going out deep sea fishing with Damian on one of the boats available to charter.

On arrival we were assigned the hugely helpful Vikesh who looked after us for our whole stay so any question or request was dealt with promptly.

Le Telfair was luxury and quality in every sense and while the food at times didn’t quite come up to the high standards of everything else in the resort, it is certainly somewhere we would have no hesitation in returning for another holiday.

There are many very good things about Le Telfair, most importantly the extremely friendly and attentive staff. The level of friendliness and helpfulness from the staff is really the strong point of this hotel. At no time did we feel that this hospitality was forced or anything but genuine. In some hotels staff can be snooty, aloof or simply indifferent to guests but not at Le Telfair.

The resort is set on pretty stretch of beach and does tick the box for a tropical beach destination. The facilities are good with a nice kids club (with lovely staff working therein), numerous swimming pools (we spent most of the time at the new-ish beach club), a reasonable gym and some free water sports. The hotel is build in french colonial style with large and well tended grounds.

That said, this is definitely not a 5 star deluxe resort - there are a number of missing ingredients that one would expect at a really top end resort, so while there is has lots going for it, we rate Le Telfair as a 4.5 star resort as opposed to anything higher.

In no particular order we would highlight the following:

The price of optional extras - while the packages offered by the hotel are attractive, optional extras are expensive and do not always seem value for money. For example, the BBQ dinner came at a supplement of £40 per person for an average meal. I would have no issue with high extra costs if the quality was exceptional - sadly it wasn't.

Limited WiFi - how can there not be WiFi in the rooms? While there is WiFi in certain spots around the resort, I would suggest free and fast WiFi in the room is a minimum requirement for a 5-star resort these days. ( - we understand from management that this is being introduced shortly).

Rooms felt slightly tired - the rooms are large and spacious with large TV's including satellite channels, however we felt there were slightly tired, particularly the bathrooms.

Bath towels - there is nothing more disappointing than old and small bath towels - this definitely added to our impression of the rooms being slightly tired.

Beach towels - the hotel has an odd policy of giving guests a card which they exchange for a beach towel. This means that towels are signed out and then back in again - and only one towel per guest. I guess they are concerned about guests stealing towels (?) or something but this hardly gives the impression of being a high end resort?

Breakfast - while certainly adequate and in no way unacceptable, the breakfast was only ok. The choice was not as wide as in some other hotels and the quality of produce good as opposed to outstanding.

Ingredient X - the difference between good and great is the small things - a cold towel given to guests sitting around the pool a couple of times a day, a small selection of fruit in the room at the end of the afternoon etc, etc. - these are the little touches that set great hotels apart from good ones. Unfortunately we saw none of these touches at Le Telfair.

To conclude - this is a very nice hotel and a lovely spot for a break. The staff could not have been more attentive and helpful and the facilities were adequate. However, it is all about expectations and if you arrive expecting a really top class 5* Deluxe resort then I think it may disappoint. At the end of the day, the hotel offers great value for money (but do budget for the extras) and as such we would certainly recommend it accordingly.

How anyone can ever find anything negative about this hotel is beyond me. It was fantastic in every way. The food, location, service, bedrooms, beach, pool, gardens were all faultless.

We were there on honeymoon and we had a junior suite which was gorgeous. Our butler was so helpful as were all of the staff.

This resort is quite simply PERFECT.

Room Tip: From what I saw all the rooms were lovely but our Junior Suite was amazing with an outdoor shower wh...
