“Peaceful lunch in a tree with gurgling water”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2014

If you love trout, this restaurant is not to be missed. Other commendable features are that the dining platforms are built into a tree and the trout ponds gurgle below you. I would stop there again if I were on my way to Nanyuki but wouldn't make a special trip to Nanyuki to sample the menu.

“Treehouse fantasy comes true”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2014

Who hasn't dreamt of living in a treehouse? The next best thing has to be a visit to the Trout Tree. The restaurant is built around and in a very big old fig tree and is a magical setting. It's mainly outdoors - but sheltered - and higgledy piggledy as it follows the contours and levels of the tree. Must be unique and aside from the tree, what you hear and see is water splashing into large tanks set around the grounds in which your lunch or dinner are swimming.
The menu features *Very* fresh trout in many guises, but if you hate fish, there are alternatives.
An added attraction is a cheeky troop of Colobus monkeys - ostensibly wild and shooed off at intervals by a staff member who threatens them with a catapult - but in reality, they're the black and white stars of the show and they know it: bring out a camera and you'll find them posing with their best profile forward.
A must-visit if you're in the Nanyuki area.

“A wonderful Place to Eat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2014

I visited the trout tree a few weeks ago and was completely blown away by the restaurant, set up in a tree house surrounded by beautiful forest it was a real hide-away from reality. with a working trout farm within the grounds there was a lot of trout dishes on the menu but as a fish love that wasn't a drama, however they still had some wonderful other options available two of my friends went for fillet steak skewers which came out in their own little oven and smelt and looked spectacular. myself I went for a pan-fried trout which was sublime as it only came from about 20ft under the table you knew it was fresh. and to top the day of the restaurant is also home to a family of monkeys that are always more than willing to come and help you finish off your meal if your struggling. If ever your near Nanyuki I fully recommend you visit the trout tree.

“Always Great”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2014

Location and the trout. Excellent combination, it helps that the drive there involves views to the Aberdares on one side and Mt Kenya on the other.

“Awesome awesome awesome!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2014

We made an impromptu visit to this restaurant on our way to nanyuki. This place is quite unique. Built around a tree. Fish straight from the fish tank. Super fresh, super tasty. The ambience was great, the service was outstanding and very reasonably priced. The colobus are just an added entertainment while you sip your drink while admiring the way the restaurant had been built. Oh and the beers are chilled naturally in the river water. Kudos to the management!!!
