“Amazing grilled trout in a lovely setting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2011

This is a great place - if you are on your way north or south on this route, plan a lunch stop here. Diverse menu, but especially good is the grilled trout - amazingly fresh (trout farm on site). Great restaurant setting. Monkeys in the trees - but don't feed them!

“Surprise in the African Bush”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2011

You could so easily drive past the Trout Tree, but don’t..! It is not what you would quite expect to find in the middle of the African bush. A trout farm with a restaurant built into a large tree. Obviously the menu is limited and the speciality is trout. Simply cooked, and served with plenty of bread, and fresh vegetables, all washed down with the local ‘Tusker’ larger, it was great. If I have one criticism; I would have liked a slightly larger trout, but that’s only because it was so tasty. The monkeys swinging in the trees were an added bonus, and source of entertainment as you waited for your food. As ever staff were very friendly, and always willing to chat and tell you how the Trout Tree came to be. If you are in Kenya, possibly on safari heading to Samburu of Nakuru national parks, ask your driver to take you to the Trout Tree for Lunch..!

“Spinners and Weavers Project”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2010

We visited Nanyuki in 2005 and were totally awed by the women at the Spinners and Weavers Project. They need so much help from those of us in the Western world who have so much. One visit and they have you convinced that you can save the world through them. We now have friends who are visiting there in 2011 and we are working to see what all we can send them. We talk every week about how we can return to Kenya and especially the Spinners and Weavers Project. We missed the Trout Tree, but will make sure we stop on our next visit.

“A fabulous "Swiss Family Robinson" Restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2010

What an oasis off the beaten path! This is a beautiful, relaxing, fantasy of a place, and the meal was absolutely THE BEST I had in Kenya my entire stay. This is a Must See for those going to or from the national reserves. Our entire Mission Team ate here and no one wanted to leave!

“It Really Is a Tree House .... well restaurant!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2010

I could hardly believe it when I visited this place! Beautiful and tranquil surroundings, amenities are fantastic and once down the steps you are shown to a table which is on a platform built around a huge tree. Underneath you are pools full of fresh trout and this is obviously where the name comes from.

The menu was quite good - I'm NOT a fish eater but my hubby is and he enjoyed the fish saying it was extremely well cooked and very fresh (you'd be in trouble if you didn't get fresh trout!!!). There were good vegetarian choices, steak and chicken. The meal was really enjoyable and the atmosphere made it more special. Take a walk around the platform before you leave and take in the beautiful surroundings.
