“Great welcome to Kenya”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2013

This was the first stop on our trip and we didn't know what to expect in terms of quality of the lodges. We were prepared for the worst. But Pelican was a wonderful surprise. Nicely done up, great service, awesome rooms and view and good food.

Pelican is a permanent hotel, so it has huge rooms with comfortable beds and very clean. The staff is friendly and helpful and the hotel has a nice lounge for a post-game ride beer.

We were sorry to have to leave after just one night.

My boyfriend and i love to travel. We needed a weekend away and after much hunting, i found this place. It looked alright, so i figured why not. I must say, i am extremely glad i went with them. The place is beautiful, amazing and just what we needed. The staff is VERY friendly and they catered to our every need. They welcomed us well and answered al our questions. The rooms are beautiful and very intimate. It is not a place for children, because it is quiet and serene and the rooms allow little to the imagination in terms of privacy. It is GREAT :). Food was excellent. We sat outside every morning and lunch time and were served like royalty. Honestly, i highly recommend them. Take a loved one and drive down from Nairobi for a couple of nights. Get a room with an outdoor shower and a view and enjoy.

Room Tip: For couples, request the cabins looking over the lake, with outdoor shower. We had cabin 3

Day 4 of my East African Safari by Safaris into Africa with Clive Arnold at the helm. Naked Wilderness Afrika Ltd have supplied the vehicles and drivers Dominic and Norman both very knowledgeable and energetic men.
The day begins early with another morning drive and then enroute to Pelican Lodge Lake Elementaita.
We arrived at the lodge in time for lunch but had seen so many animals enroute including not one but two leopards crossing the road. We also stopped to see where Out Of Africa was filmed which overlooks Nakuru Reserve which in September was flooded and cutting road access. Locals have not seen as much water as is in Lake Nakuru and as the lake has no natural drainage it may take years for the water level to drop.
The lodge overlooks Lake Elementaita and if you ask at the front desk a guide for a small donation will escort you to the lake so that you may walk around it. It is not recommended that you do this unescorted.
When you reach the lake you may be lucky to see flamingos, pelicans lots of birdlife as well as donkeys that they use on the property. In the distance you can see the sleeping warrior mountain which I believe was so named because when in times of trouble people hid in the caves there.
I had a guide by the name of Elizabeth and she wasso informative and well worth the donation at conclusion Elizabeth is employed by the lodge as a worker to make ones stay more pleasant.
My lodge was amazing very spacious for one with an outside shower which I used and can recommend that you do the same. Even though outside it was not cold .
To conserve generator usage one must give reception a 10 min request to turn the boiler on and then you do have hot water. Of a morning if you inform reception of departure time they will make sure that you have hot water.
A bathrobe and a selection of toiletries are supplied for personal use a nice touch.
I encountered one small problem as it was getting dark I attempted to turn the lights on only to have the cord from the ceiling land in my hand so no lights no worries a torch is suppled in the room so I had this along with my own torch lighting the room till the fix it man arrived. Having recovered from how did that happen and in the dark he fixed it so much for work safety.
Food is adequate although a bit bland again complimentary water is supplied in the room.
Tomorrow I leave for Masai Mara.

This place is highly recommended. Really enjoyed the decor. The staff was attentive and were quick to assist us every time we needed something. The food was superb and the rooms were very comfortable. Be sure to bring a tripod to take pictures of the stars at night.

Room Tip: Brings mosquito repellant. The hotel is next to a lake and there are mosquitoes. Fortunately, for so...

Stayed there with a bride and groom we had been best couple at their wedding! It was a lovely stay. Got a little lost getting there but the reception was really good.
The food was well prepared and the brakfast really good. Staff were very very friendly and despite being late, we were given the best reception.
Did a last minute booking and it was done very fast and still got a very nice room!

The place is simply a must visit.

No TV in the room. Very good for bonding.....

The bathrooms were very clean and nice, with shampoo, shower cap for wifey and shower gel.
The bathroom has a nice peeping window with lovely mirrors....

Lovely night, private and simply amazing!

We have just had a relaxing break at Pelican Lodge. Our lodge was really comfortable with a magnificent view over the lake. The staff looked after our every need in a friendly, professional manner. Food was excellent, with generous portions and a vegetarian option was always available. We had our personal waitress who was helpful and charming.
The guided walk was well worth the effort and price - our guide was well informed and obviously enjoys sharing his knowledge. Take a camera to catch the wildlife.
Our stay was early in the week, when the lodge is quiet - for us this added to the experience.
We hope to pay a return visit.

Room Tip: If you want an African shower, request it when booking
