“One of the best B&Bs we've ever been to”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 10, 2008

Zion National Park is an incredible place to visit -- great hikes, great scenes of beauty. and more. If you go there and like B&Bs, definitely check out Canyon Vista B&B. I can't say enough about it. The rooms (we booked two: one for me and my wife, the other for our daughter) were lovely and comfortable, with every amenity -- including a small fridge and microwave. The food was delicious, the company fun, and perhaps most important, the innkeepers --- Trista and Matt -- were two of the most genuinely warm and welcoming people we've ever met. We've been to a lot of B&Bs over the years. This one rates right up there in the top 3.

My family (2 adults and 2 kids aged 8 and 11) stayed at Canyon Vista for 3 nights when we toured Zion, Bryce and the North Rim. It was probably one of the best B&Bs we've ever stayed at (and we've experienced quite a few in a number of countries!) for the following reasons:
- the location was ideal for Zion and the views breathtaking;
- the accommodation we had was spacious, comfortable and had all the amenities we wanted;
- the hot tub was great (even though we should have done it in the cool evening rather than the afternoon!);
- Trista's breakfasts were varied and delicious and my son's food allergies were catered for;
- Trista was warm and friendly and provided good advice on what hikes to do (and also lent us very useful walking sticks for the Narrows) and what places to eat;
- When we needed to leave early for a morning horse ride, Trista kindly provided breakfast earlier so that we didn't have to go with an empty stomach and when one of us went for an early morning hike and could only get back later in the morning for breakfast, the breakfast could be kept till then!

Zion is a long long way from us but should we ever be there again, we will definitely stay at Canyon Vista. We would certainly be recommending it to our friends!

I gave the Canyon Vista a low rating to alert people that there are much better places to stay in Zion. It is not really "terrible," just very disappointing.

We arrived in 106 degree heat at 3:30 and one of our rooms was not ready. Trista did not tell us when breakfast was and we forgot to ask. When we went upstairs the next morning at 7:15 the door was locked and no lights were on. We left and bought food in the grocery store as we wanted an early start for hiking in such heat. The shuttle buses start running at 6:00 a.m.

That afternoon Trista told us breakfast is at 8:00 (in response to a note I left her). An 8:00 breakfast is not compatible with the needs of hikers who want to get going.

The rooms were nicely decorated. But there was evidence everywhere of a compulsive economizing that made me feel unwelcome. No TV. No Kleenex. Not even any soap! Well, there was a single bottle of liquid soap in a ceramic container. I was terrified I was going to break it moving it back and forth between the sink and shower. The toiletries consisted of 40 oz containers of cheap shampoo and conditioner. Our paper towels in the kitchen area ran out.

There is no view of the river from the property. There might be upstairs but we did not want to sit on the porch where Matt and Trista were relaxing. Matt is not too friendly.

We enjoyed the video selection (not extensive but we don't watch many videos so it was OK for us). Trista made a lovely breakfast the next day and it was beautifully presented.

We got no discount for missing a meal. The place is way too expensive for what you get.

I would even take a conventional hotel with a swimming pool over the Canyon Vista next time. That old Roger Miller song with the line "no phone no pool no pets" kept going through my mind after the Canyon Vista. OK, it was not nearly that bad -- I just feel like a chump for spending so much there.

We only stayed 2 nights but wished it were longer. We stayed in a different room each night due to someone's previous booking and our late one. That was no problem at all and actually it was nice to see 2 of the 4 rooms. Both rooms were clean, large, nicely decorated and fully stocked with micro, coffee pot (and coffee), and refrigerator - mini kitchen with a table. Nice if you are traveling by car. Wonderful breakfasts by Trista. Matt and Trista can both give helpful tips about the area.

I have never stayed at a B&B where I felt so completely comfortable. Matt and Trista (and their animal family) are warm, easy-going people who made us feel very welcome. Often when I stay at a B&B, I feel a little awkward using the common spaces, but not so here. We enjoyed the porch, the swings, the yard; we hung out with the dogs and played with the cats.

The breakfasts were great, and even the one morning I wasn't feeling up to eating much, Trista immediately prepared me something a little milder to eat. She was aware of my husband's strawberry allergy, and my preference for a glass of milk in the mornings. We often hung out after breakfast just chatting, and never felt like we were intruding or unwelcome.

In addition, Matt and Trista really know the area and recommend everything from a good restaurant to a challenging hike. They pointed us to a place we could go on a private trail ride, and suggested the best way to enjoy Bryce Canyon for a day trip.

I would absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Zion.

  • Liked — innkeepers and food!

My boyfriend and I stayed at Canyon Vista for 3 nights. We have nothing but good things to say about this B&B. We ended up having to switch rooms on our 3rd night due to another booking, but the innkeepers moved our bags for us and it was seamless. In addition, we were not charged the more expensive rate for the second room. The breakfasts are absolutely delicious, Trista and Matt were very friendly and gave us a great recommendation of an off the beaten path hike, recommended some good restaurants (and more importantly the restaurants to avoid), and arranged a continental breakfast for us when we got up early one morning. A previous reviewer commented that Matt seemed cold and irritated with guests - we did not find that to be true. As for there not being network television in the rooms - you are in Zion National Park, one of the most gorgeous places in the US - why do you need to watch tv??? The initial reason I booked our stay here was because of how friendly Trista was on the phone, and I am really glad we found this hidden gem. The rooms are huge, the breakfasts are delicious, the location is convenient, the price is right, and the hosts are gracious.

2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2008

We stayed at Canyon Vista for three days in April. We have stayed in Bed and Breakfasts all over the United States, and by far, this has been the least friendly. Triste is very sweet, but her husband has acted very unwelcoming. He never introduced himself and seemed aloof and angry at the guests for much of the time. We hate feeling like we are invading someone's personal space, and that is exactly how we felt every minute when he was home. There is no television, which is advertised, but when a couple staying next to us was desperately trying to find an open sports bar to view a game, it made us feel sick to look up and see the husband watching the ame game from the comfort of his living room. When we went up to borrow a movie (also advertised) he seemed both territorial and visibly upset at the "intrusion." The rooms are clean and serviceable but the hot tub is awful. The dogs are the BEST. We are staying in one of the two converted garage rooms, and the concrete floors are very cold. The jetted hot tub is too small for an adult--my husband's legs (he's 5' 9") were stretched out half way up the wall and when he turned on the "jets" all he got was his face sprayed. It's a coffin like enclosure. We were promised a second smaller bed and never got it. (I had a headcold.) Once again, Triste seems to desperately try to compensate for her husband's outright anger and obvious discontent. It's an uncomfortable stay at BEST and considering ALL the local options (many of which are NOT advertised) this is NOT the place to stay in Zion. Other negatives: NO bedside reading lamps, bed is really small, the tv cabinet doors do not stay open, tub does NOT drain, the view is compromised at best, no table large enough to eat at. Our room is the ambiance of the converted garage it is. We will never stay here again---there are really delightful options all over Springdale!

  • Liked — The dogs are absolutely wonderful.
  • Disliked — The abrasive, unwelcoming attitude of the husband.

We are thrilled to be B&B owners and to provide accommodations for guests traveling to the Southwest. People who stay at B&Bs know that owners must love people to do this kind of work. We are no exception and have never been called “unfriendly” before. We pride ourselves in our reputation and strive to give guests the best experience we can. We have operated this B&B for over five years now and we honestly love our “jobs”. Thousands of guests have stayed with us without negative reviews and we have established a large return customer and referral customer base.

This couple did not complain to us in the three nights they stayed at our B&B. They declined having a second bed placed in their room because the wife had a new sleep apnea machine. We only found out later that her head cold prevented her from using the machine making sleep for either of them impossible. When we found out, we gave them a second room free of charge so they could sleep separately and get a good night sleep.

Ironically, for this same Southwest trip, the couple left a great review for a hotel in Kanab, Utah and a terrible review for 5-star B&B in Torrey, Utah saying they refused to stay there due to rude service at check in. You can click on this reviewers URL above to read more.

We hope that travelers take the time to review our entire feedback history on the tripadvisor site. Also, please visit our website where you will find pictures of us, our property, and our rooms. You will find the amenities, views, etc. are exactly what is offered and published on our website.

All of the B&Bs in Springdale are lovely. We have no doubt that you will enjoy your stay regardless of which one you choose. Thank you.
