“stale bagels”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2005

Stayed here 2 nights and found room to be big, comfortable, clean with microwave, refrigerator, and hair dryer. A wonderful view of Zion from our room. Motel is close to shuttle. Also, not much of a walk to Zion if you prefer to walk and not take the shuttle. Motel convenient to downtown. Only problem with this Motel is the breakfast room. It is much too small.........definitely not enough seating. Only had one toaster and really need to have another because I waited and waited for the toaster to be free and findly gave up and ate my bagel as is .........which was stale. Also, I think the donuts were also a few days old. Never saw any waffles as others on this site have mentioned.........

I was surprised to read the recent poor reviews of the Quality Inn as we (husband, brother and I) had a great 2 night stay there in May. The Inn is located on the two lane road right outside the park, where there are a number of lodging choices lined up on either side of the road. The Quality Inn is one of the closest to the park entrance, a 2 minute, two stop bus ride away. I was very happy with the location.

We were looking for a reaaonably nice, economical place to stay as our plan was to spend as much time in the park as possible. The prices for that particular weekend were $140/night or more at the other options we were considering: Desert Pearl and Best Western; Zion lodge inside the park was completely booked. We were able to book a room for AAA rate $85 a night at the Quality Inn for two nights (Sat and Sun). The reviews on trip advisor from prior travellers were pretty good so I went for it. Since there was a significant difference in price, I didn't expect much but was pleasantly surprised.

Our room was on the first floor so we didn't have to lug our luggage up any stairs, which was a plus, since they didn't have an elevator. The room was clean, large, with two beds and a good sized bathroom with run of the mill, motel furnishings and toiletries which were fine. With three adults in the room, the room didn't feel cramped. I had called numerous times before arrival to request a room with a refrigerator. They couldn't accommodate me but said they would move a fridge to the room if there was an extra one. Well, we were lucky because there was an extra fridge which they moved into our room promptly. It appears that other folks had problems securing a fridge during their stay which is too bad. I felt slightly guilty as I had anticipated not having a fridge and we had brought a huge cooler with us as well.

The breakfast was simple but good and fueling. The breakfast room is small and does get crowded but there is additional seating outside which is where we had our coffee, cereal and waffles both mornings. Most of the other hotels/inns do not serve breakfast so we were pretty happy with what we got. We basically stayed out in the park all day and returned to the inn to regroup and head out again, shower and sleep. We never used the pool, did notice it was on the small side though. As for the owner, we never dealt with him, the 2 women who helped us at the counter when we checked in and out were helpful and courteous.

One very minor problem we had was the first night, there was a problem with hot water and we each suffered a cold shower but it was fixed by the morning. In general, for the price, our stay was exceptional. Great location, large clean room, fridge was a big plus, breakfast was decent and of course, having Zion National Park at our doorstep was AWESOME. Some advice: don't pay the extra for a "view room", it's not worth it, why would you need a view from your room when you can just step outside and see everything up close and personal?

This hotel lacks any of the attractive qualities of the surrounding scenery as it seems to double up as a camping/RV resort – not what we were expecting. It is situated at Shuttle Bus Stop 2 – very near to the Park entrance. The room – a double queen – was clean enough and had a coffee machine, but we were surprised to find no ‘fridge. The hotel is divided into several blocks – some with views of the pools, others the RV site and, in our case, the neighbour’s well tended vegetable patch (they also had a clear view of us!)! Luckily, there was always the beautiful backdrop of the National Park. The pool is very small – my husband commented that 8 children would fill it up – and when we went there were far more than that in the pool! There is a play area, shop and laundry on the site. The breakfast was a buffet taken in a very small dining area with some of the best freshly cooked waffles I have ever had! I was concerned at the amount of paper plates and plastic cups that were being used – 2 bins were full to overflowing – in an area that needs all the help it can get to preserve its wonderful environment, I found this quite hard to justify. Our biggest criticism was of the owner; a very abrupt gentleman who seemed to be fully aware that he did not need our custom, as at this time of the year in this very busy spot, he could easily fill his hotel. The utilities such as the Laundry were shut very promptly (8pm) and we were asked to end our session on the Internet Terminal ($3 initially to connect and, I think, approx. $15 per hour thereafter) grumbling that he needed to lock up and go home at 10pm. Every other member of staff was delightful; very courteous and conscious of their guests needs; the owner could learn from them and consider employing someone overnight – perhaps they could double up and wash the breakfast dishes!?

I had a good stay here. The rooms were brand new and clean and the beds were comfortable. But, it was a little bit of a walk from the hotel building to the lobby. The gate to the pool area on the hotel building side was closed, so you have to walk all the way around the pool area to get to the lobby, instead of through the pool area, which would have been a much shorter walk, but not far at all, just a little farther than usual. The Continental Breakfast dosen't open until 8, which I didn't like as I am usally up by 6:30, to do some hiking in Zion. They gave me some food and gave us a room with a refrigerator, so we didn't have to go down to the continental breakfast and was able to leave early each day. The breakfast room looked like it got pretty crowded as there is also an RV/ Campground on the grounds which was bigger than the hotel was. But, overall pretty good stay here.
