After checking into our motel in Oakhurst, we drove north into Yosemite National Park to see the Mariposa Grove that afternoon so that we could spend most of the next day in the main valley. Even though it was the Labor Day weekend, the Grove parking area just beyond the Rangers' Entry Point was not full. We walked up the Grove's trail stopping at the various special sights. At no point was the trail excessively steep, but at points it was a little work. Even so, the sights repaid the effort.
The size and age of these trees provide a new perspective on our own lives. The Park's information signs help the process.
The drive the next day from Oakhurst to the Valley was much more attractive than the more popular route directly out of the valley.
Mariposa Grove is so much more than a detour within the Park. It is a completely desirable destination itself.
