This restaurant is perfectly situated so you can look out enjoy the spectacular scenery. Good variety of dinner choices, as well as a decent wine list. We both had the trout, which was delicious. Server, Sydney, was very personable and attentive. To top off the meal, had the cobbler which was wonderful. Have eaten here the last few years we have coming into the valley, and it has never disappointed us.

“Great food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 15, 2014

Enjoyed two dinner meals at the restaurant. Had great food both nights. Had the rainbow trout one night and the steak the next night. The service was excellent and the views of the falls was a perfect setting for us.

This review is not just for the Mountain Room Restaurant, but food quality in general at Yosemite.

I've been a regular visitor since the 70's and the quality of food has never been great, but unfortunately been declining last few years. Now I don't know anyone who comes to Yosemite to have a gourmet experience, but the recent visits to the Mountain Room and various other restaurants have been more disappointing than ever before.

In the land of superlatives, the DNC management needs to try a bit harder.

“Great dinner after rafting excursion”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 13, 2014

Our party of 8 was tired and hungry after rafting. We took a chance and walked in without reservations and were seated around 530pm. The service was fantastic and so was the food. We had eaten at The Ahwahnee the night before the Mountain Room was much better. Steaks and wine were very good!

“12 tips for enjoying your dinner at the Mountain Room Restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 13, 2014

1. The restaurant is only open from 5pm to 8pm when we were there April 16, 2014. They may have extended hours later in the summer. So if you get there too late, you may have to eat at the Food Court (cafeteria food) or the Mountain Room Lounge (sandwich and appetizer sports bar).

2. The Mountain Room Restaurant does not take reservations, but is a first come first served restaurant. The only exception is for parties of 8 or more, and then only for 5pm or 530pm.

3. Parties of 2 arriving at 5pm will usually get a table next to the window with a view of Lower Yosemite Falls right in your face. And the guests paying $220 to stay in the next door Birch building at the Lodge will get a view of the restaurant's delivery area and dumpsters -a classic case of you don't get what you pay for.

4. Expect to pay $75 after tip and tax but without drinks for a dinner for 2. This is about double the price of the nearby Food Court or Mountain Room Lounge, but slightly cheaper than $100 at the Ahwahnee. Portions at the Ahwahnee are about 50% larger than at these other three restaurants at the Lodge.

5. Limited menu which changes every year. They no longer have the chicken dish nor the beer beef stew dish, which I liked last year. Portions are on the small side, compared to the Ahwahnee.

6. My wife had the $30 petite filet mignon, about 6 ounces in size. Portion about the size of an oversized hockey puck, with a small baked potato and krail (?) cooked leafy vegetable. The filet mignon was tasty, and cheaper than the $50 petite filet mignon at the Ahwahnee. Other steaks here include the $35 12oz New York Steak, and the $38 14oz Ribeye steak.

7. I split a $7 mixed greens salad with my wife. She got the carrot strips, purple leaves, spinach, and tomatoes, and I took the croutons and green leaves. Average portion size, and average service. Tomato was tasteless and looked like it was chemically ripened from green to red.

8. Delicious heated sourdough bread comes with the meal, and is more tasty with butter. Candlelight dinner, with huge cathedral floor to ceiling windows, and Lower Yosemite falls in the background. Tables for 2 are only 20" wide, and becomes crowded quickly, as items arrive.

9. I got the daily special which was the $23 linguine in cream sauce with spicy hot sliced andouille sausage. Pretty ordinary dish, a bit overpriced for what you get, and not too difficult to make.

10. We check out the neighbors, and the man is eating the $17 genuine angus beef hamburger with all the fixings -lettuce, tomato, stacks of white onion, etc. Never saw a $17 hamburger before. Way overpriced.

11. We get out of there for $79 after tax and tip, and my wife drinking a glass of red wine. Pricey meal, fantastic ambiance and atmosphere, good service, and no whining kids running around like in the Food court. Average value for what you pay for -I think the Ahwahnee is a better deal for what you get.

12. We check on the Food Court first before coming here -they were serving catfish as the main entree that night, and the fish looked dried out, so we came here. Forget about having dinner at the Mountain Room Lounge, as it was packed to the rafters with people watching the playoffs on TV (no ESPN on the TVs in the Lodge rooms), and is a sandwhich and appetizer bar. They also have age restrictions on clients during their happy hour.
