“Romantic, Enchanting, Great Food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 26, 2014

By far, the Ahwahnee Dining Room is our favorite place to dine. The Sunday brunch is amazing with so much wonderful food choices. The kids menu makes my girls happy as well as their fun milkshakes.

“Great ambience, a little pricy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2014

This place has ambience to spare. We went on a dark, snowy night in early December. The room (or more accurately, hall) made me think of bierhauses and medieval Viking gatherings.

We showed up early before it was too crowded.

Service was attentive but spotty (one waiter talked down to us as though we didn't know anything about anything), but the food was pretty good, and the people-watching was spectacular.

A bit on the expensive side for what you get. But then you can venture over to the gigantic fireplaces outside and sit and drink for awhile.

“Dine at the heart of Yosemite”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 17, 2014

The Ahwahnee Hotel is a fabulous destination for many reasons. It is a historic landmark in the heart of Yosemite Valley. As one of Americas Great Lodges the architecture is impressive. The hotel is an oasis of civilization in the heart of Yosemite Valley, but still captures the ambiance of the rustic spirit of the California wilderness. The dining room is breathtaking, with cathedral log beam ceilings and expansive glass windows offering views of Yosemite Valley all around, and doors that open onto the valley floor. It is amazing to experience the comfort of a luxury hotel, then to walk a few yards and be surrounded by the magnificent beauty of Yosemite Valley. The Ahwahnee is a place for special times, events and occasions. While the food and service are good, prices are high. Ambiance trumps price, but overall a stay at the Ahwahnee is an experience that will be remembered for a lifetime.

“Pricey but very worth it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 17, 2014

We were told by locals in the area that we happened to pass by that we had to at least visit this dining hall if not eat here. They warned us it is very pricey ($45 an adult for brunch) but it was buffet style all you can eat and definitely worth it. My boyfriend and I decided to eat and it was all we could imagine and more! Even though we were not guests they "sort of" put you down as one then seat you. You are greeted by two hostess that also seat you, it is very formal and we were completely under dressed in hiking clothing to their ties and jackets. The food was exquisite, the dessert even better. We took many trips to the food (and probably looked like starving rats, but it was too good to not want to stop) and also had a few glasses of wine of their incredibly long list. It was all very delicious and I would most definitely stop back.

“grossly disappointing”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 16, 2014

We had wanted to stay at the Ahwahnee hotel, but fortunately they were booked. I don't like to review after only one visit, but as everything was very poor here, I am going to. First the room is spectacular. We stayed at the Yosemite lodge but had planned to eat at the Ahwahnee dining room. We went there for lunch. Two servers, one knew nothing. Asked for tonic water, she didn't know what that was but could get it from the tap. She served after lunch coffee left over from breakfast, cold and thick. This was the high point of her service. Other server was just down right scary. After about the sixth time she stopped by the table just to chat, ending each sentence with a burst of rather maniacal laughter, we were afraid to look anywhere but at our plates, hoping she would go away. No such luck. In fairness she did go and get us hot coffee and other server came over to apologize. Okay service awful, food was worse. We felt sure the soup was made on site, but was so over salted with canned tasting vegetables, it had to have been reheated at least several times. Ham was dry, crumbly, tasteless and clearly was an often reheated spiral cut ham from a supermarket. Steak tips were only recognizable from the wording on the menu card. It was a serve yourself buffet (some marketer had been to England, it was called a carvery) the sides were indifferent descending into inedible. Deserts were the bright spot, they were average.

As i say, I don't like to review after one sitting, but since everything was bad, it was a trend. It has replaced one notably bad Mexican dinner as our standard of the worst meal ever. Price with drinks and tip (I did tip because this poor of a staff was the fault of management, not an individual server) was $70. In case you think I am judging to harshly, this review is knid compared to the comments of other diners. A table of six next to us got and left halfway through their meal.
