Yosemite was awesome and we definitely picked the best place to stay.

We arrived at the Curry Village at around 9pm so it was dark. We were quickly checked in and given very specific guidance about what to do with our belongings (to avoid bears!!) and to lock any food or toiletries in the metal locker in front of our tent.
The tent although canvas had a wooden frame, a lockable door and heating, we were also provided with bedding and towels. We were ideally located for the shower block and the toilets as well as the bar and the 'pizza deck'.

We woke the following morning to the most amazing sight with early morning sunshine in a little tent village under the trees. The shower block was well laid out with shampoo and shower gel provided, it was very clean and manned by a member of staff offering extra towels.

We had previously considered staying at the Housekeeping Camp with the river view and the dormitory cabins with the curtain door. We had ultimately decided against this as the proper door was preferable as I am quite susceptible to mosquito bites. Having hired bikes the following day we decided to cycle down to look at where we could have stayed and frankly we had made the right decision, with the exception of a couple of blocks none of the cabins were actually by the rivers edge as we had envisaged. Our rate for the tent in Curry Village was slightly less than we would have paid for the cabins and we would seemingly have had to pay extra for bedding - we definitely got the better deal.

We stayed here recently and thought the price ($45) and the location were just great. Not so many people because school is in session and the fall weather was just lovely ( in the mid 80's). We hiked and had a lovely time, and even had a bobcat walk through the campsite for some up close wildlife. And the raccoon babies were very cute-- like kittens in the trees. We had a lovely time.

We spent three nights at Curry Village just recently and were pleasantly surprised, as we had expected far less than what we got.

On arrival, we were quickly able to obtain the keys to the unheated tent cabin we had rented for us three. Front desk was friendly and helped us with the many questions we had.

The tent cabin we had was just perfect. Very clean, two beds as we had requested, and the environment very quiet. It appears that rules of quiet times are strictly enforced, or maybe we got lucky, but we had been expecting a loud, unruly campsite and were happy to find none of that.

The bed itself could have been a bit more comfortable, but after all, this is a camp kind of environment, and not a 5-star hotel.

  • Liked — Well-organised, even though there were quite a few people there...

We are a family of four (2 adults, 11 and 9 year olds) and we stayed in a tent in Curry Village in mid August as part of a 3 week vacation in California. The location of the Village in the Yosemite Valley is fantastic - you are right amongst the trees and the rocks with all the activities at your fingertips. In August, the cost of the tent was pricey but it was all that was left by the time we booked. The tents are basic - beds, electric light, a dresser with a mirror and a chair (if you are lucky). You also get your own bear box outside your tent and you are expected to use it. The tents are as clean as a canvas structure with a wooden floor can be and you get your own broom to sweep out your own dust. Sheets, blankets and towels are provided. Our tent was accessed by three steep wooden steps and there were no tarmac paths between our tent and the showers or the car park - so those little wheels on your case are of little or no use here and goodness knows how you'd manage with a buggy. Lastly, it was dusty, very dusty, so keep any best clothes in your car as you will not be needing or wanting them here. Not sure what it woud be liked if it rained.

All this may sound a little negative so here's the positive stuff.
If you take one of these tents and remember you are camping, you will be fine. The showers were hot and clean and if you pick your time, you won't have to queue. Clean towels are also plentiful so you can wash the dust off! If possible, pack the clothes etc. for this part of your stay into a smaller bag and leave your posh suitcase in the car. The 'quiet time' was observed so it was not noisy despite being in a tent. Take a torch to help you find your way home! We bought the breakfast option and they provided a great buffet spread in the main building which set us up for the day. Also, the fact that you are in the heart of everything means you can get up and go without resorting to your car. We loved Yosemite and once we'd adjusted, we loved Curry Village.

Firstly and most importantly whatever the rooms are like you should go here. The scenery and views are absolutely amazing, a truly stunning, beautiful place.

We have been here twice, firstly in 2006 and then 2008. Over the 2 visits we have stayed in 3 types of rooms which I will give a brief description of:

5 berth canvas cabin without bath - this is 1 up from camping. Some are shown in 1 of the pictures. A room with 1 double and 3 single beds crammed in. A basic chest of drawers and bare light bulb and thats it.

5 berth cabin without bath - made out of wood and that is the only difference to the above.

5 berth room with bath - well actually its a shower and toilet. More furniture and decorations. 2 double and a single, more lamps and lights.

All the rooms have no air con and were very hot and inadequately ventilated. All though were clean enough.

The shower blocks were fine, again clean enough with plenty of hot water and pressure.

We thought the food was reasonable and reasonably priced considering it is a captured audience. The Pizza and Mexican deck were good. The Pavilion buffet was fine if a little like school dinners (if from the UK you'll know what I mean).

I did 3 of the trails. Upper Yosemite falls felt like the steepest overall and took about 5 hours. Panorama trail took about the same and is Ok for smaller kids. Half Dome took about 7.5 hours and the cables are a bit scary.

Overall I would return tomorrow.
