We booked Curry Village as like a lot of people, didn't realise you had to book accomodation in Yosemite 6 months out. We booked one of the canvas tents as this was all that was available to us, but it was better than expected (the wooden cabins looked good though). It's in an incredible position, just underneath a mountain and in the very centre of Yosemite Valley.
We were in Yosemite in July so thought it may be incredibly hot in the tent (which do not have air con/ fan), but it was pretty manageable. Yes, the tent is basic, but you know that when you book. You are provided with all of the basics - sheets, towels, extra blankets etc. There are a lot of bathroom blocks so queuing isn't usually a problem, the bear locker is directly outside your door.
While the accomodation is basic, after a long trek you actually get a great nights sleep - helped along but the mountain air. The camp was pretty quiet at night and early in the morning too.
The food facilities are all in a central block away from the tents so you do not notice the noise from these either. The food options were also suprisingly good. We had the buffet in the main dining hall one night and then the burgers from the takeaway grill the other - and we were more than happy with both. We didn't try the pizza bar due to the queue but the pizzas looked great.
The general store is incredibly well stocked and open early until late, and there is also a camping/ hiking shop that seems to provide everything else you could possibly need for your trip.
There is also a pool and evening talks on Yosemite relevant topics, which we didn't go to but looked pretty interesting.
While there isn't a lot of nightlife here, after a long day hiking in the sun, you don't miss it and i don't think people go to Yosemite for the nightlife!
Curry Village is well thought out and within easy reach of the trailheads/ the free shuttle to the trailheads. It is a little expensive, but you're really paying for the location. The staff are very knowledgable and helpful. Prepare yourself for a camp site and be pleasantly surpised.
