“Not bad considering it's in Yosemite”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2011

We spent 2 nights at the campground. Booked it 3 days before our trip as they had a cancellation(?).
Pluses: 30 min drive to the Valley; sites are nicey spaced apart; for $20/night better than staying at a hotel.
Negatives: bathrooms are dirty and have no lights (dark even during the mornings); some people don't observe the curfew hours between 10pm-6am and can be very loud and park rangers don't enforce this rule.
Overall, we were lucky to get a space on short notice in Yosemite in the middle of summer. I would only stay again if they have lights in the bathrooms. Our campsite was o.k. (with bench, fire ring, bear box. But we had a sloped lot which makes sleeping a little challenging, plus our noisy neighbors.

We stayed for 3 days after 4th of July w/o reservations, quite a surprise that not only was there availability but that the campground was clean & exactly what we were hoping for! Sites are comfortable distance apart from each other & park rangers did drive-bys during the day to make sure everyones belongings were safe. No showers but they are located on valley floor. Be prepared to see deer & possibly bears! Hope you enjoy- please remember to leave park cleaner than found!

Stayed 4 nights here. Great place if in self-contained RV - you get huge sites with table, firepit and bear box. Only real issue is low number of toilets (1 male/1 female per ~50 sites) and lack of showers - obviously not perfect if camping. Frequent Ranger talks by the campfire, 30mins drive to Yosemite valley. Next to petrol station/groceris.

Just stayed at Crane Flat in a tent on a first-come, first-serve basis, and had a blast. Our campsite was almost as big as the lot for our house! We backed up to a meadow so no one was behind us, and there was a great distance from all the other campsites.

We arrive on Mondays in Yosemite to get a campsite, and have never had a problem getting a great one. I think the focus for most people is on Yosemite Valley, but we don't like camping experiences where everyone is jammed tight together. We'd rather take the 20- 25 minute drive to the Valley to visit, then spend our nights and mornings back at Crane Flat. Or, we've done the same thing at Bridalveil Creek Campground...outside the Valley by about 30 minutes.

We found ourselves confused in several instances. I was planning to stay at Bridalveil Creek Campground and was shocked at the last minute to find it wasn't open the last few days of June...not until July 1. It just didn't make sense to me. Crane Flat is all open to first-come-first serve types until July 1. On July 1, the 400s and 500s are all reserved. It wasn't clear going up which part of the park was only reserved, so we camped in a great, available campsite the last two days of June, and had to move because it was in the reserved area. The Yosemite park website, and the signage when you arrive at Crane Flat aren't any help at all in this regard.

Crane Flat has flush toilets and water faucets, but no showers. You have to go to Curry Village for showers.

There's fine hiking all along Tioga Road, so you can experience tons of Yosemite beauty without going to the valley.

If you've never been, make sure you get gassed up at Mariposa so you have a full tank. There's only one gas station in Yosemite, and it's right next to Crane Flat.

It was all good. No complaints.

My g/f friend and I stayed here for labor day weekend. I have stayed in yosemite quite a few times and this campsite was overall not too bad. We were lucky enough to get a 500 series campsite as these seem to be more private. The bathrooms are clean with running water and the staff is friendly enough. This was further out than I thought it would be. Its a good 20+ min drive down to camp curry and yosemite village to the showers and stores.
Nothing really bad to say..just far too away from all the entertainment of the valley for us.

It is much more seperated than the camp sites down in the valley. Less of a place for children. Good bathrooms that are cleaned regularly with running water. Stick to the 500 series outer loop for some more seclusion from neighboring sites.

I have camped at a couple different campgrounds in Yosemite and Crane flat is by far my favorite. Yosemite is very crowded so there will be people everywhere but of all the campgrounds in Yosemite, this is the best.
