Like others have stated, I enjoyed Tuolumne Meadows much more than Yosemite Valley. I actually went during high tourist season/early August, and yet Tuolumne Meadows was not very crowded at all. We got there around noon on a weekday, so that may have been part of it.
The trails are just beautiful, with deer grazing about everywhere. The first trail we took only had a few people on it, and after a while we had several spots where it was just us! It was very inspirational. The rapid streams were gorgeous with the mountains in the background. I could sit by the stream meadows all day.
If Tioga Pass is open when you go, I would highly recommend this place. It is a pretty easy hike, with a just a few elevated spots. It is peaceful and will have you wanting to camp here overnight (which you can't, but a girl can dream).
