We go to Yosemite every winter in February to enjoy the beauty of the Valley and ski and snowboard at Badger Pass. When the kids were small we stayed in the Family Room at the Lodge or the Loft Room at Curry and dined out for dinner, but prepared simple breakfast and lunch to go. As they got bigger it became crowded, but the trip was always worth it because Yosemite is so wonderful in the winter!
This year we rented Bear's Den for two nights and it was like home away from home. The kitchen was perfectly stocked with utensils, dishes and pots and pans. The home was clean and incredibly cozy. Traveling with four high-schoolers, the home was perfectly sized with plenty of room for everyone. Being able to make all our meals saved enough money to make us feel that the nightly rate was well worth it. We even used the barbecue.
Checking in was fast and the owner was very friendly. Even though there was at least 2-3 feet of snow, the roads were maintained well and we had no trouble getting to the house. I do wish there would have been some salt to use for the icy part of the driveway that led to the stairs. Just be careful where you step, because I did slip once. There were snow shovels, but it was hard ice.
When you print out driving directions make sure you print the coupon for Badger Pass. We saved 17% off lift tickets.
All in all a wonderful choice! I did miss spending time in the Valley, in which we usually hike and sled. Since we come in Hwy 120 we spent just a few hours there. Next year we will head up earlier and spend the day in the Valley before we head up 41.
