“Just OK”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 23, 2010

The food was pretty mediocre, and I definitely wouldn't go to this restaurant anywhere but in a remote location like this. Breakfasts were not too bad, but the fruit was definitely tasteless and mass-farmed. The food was generally cooked correctly, but was pretty bland and boring. However, it sure beats walking around Yellowstone on an empty tummy, and was the best food we found in Yellowstone.

“Better off with snacks or hunger”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2010

Way over-priced for below-par food.
Steak, ordered to be well-done, was still frozen in the middle and had to be sent back. Smoked salmon was worse than what we can get in our grocery deli. Bison cut was very disappointing.
Tiny portions - huge cost.
We were seated by a lovely fireplace, with great atmosphere, but that was also the chosen walkway for other patrons being seated and then leaving - so busy and not enough room so the chair closest (with a small child) got bumped.
No compensation or even real acknowledgment of the steak issue.
Such a waste!
Otherwise great experience staying at the Old Faithful Snow Lodge and Mammoth Hotel Dining room is super.

“Snow Lodge Dining in the Winter”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2010

We liked the restaurant at Mammoth better than the one at the Snow Lodge. The strangest thing on this menu was Slow Roasted Pork Belly - even after the server told us what this was, we were still wondering who would eat this? The macaroni and cheese was okay - the night I got it they had way too many bread crumbs on top. I don't think it was served the same way twice. The prime rib was very good, the french onion soup was also good. We had the breakfast buffet one morning it was very good. Again, the yogurt and granola was excellent. You must have a reservation for dinner and make them when you book the trip, or else you won't be dining there for dinner.

“Much better than Old Faithful Inn Dining Room.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2009

Better menu, better prices, better chefs. We went to this restuarant for dinner twice as the Old Faithful Inn dining room (where we were staying) was booked out. Pleasant suprise, quality of food was great, and excellent staff. Not an extensive menu (and heavy on carbs) but something for everyone. Only gripe was you had to order veges seperately as none came with the meal. I liked the modern decor too.

“Pop Tarts would be Better!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2009

We stayed at the Old Faithful Snow Lodge and decided to try breakfast at the Obsidian Dining Resturant. Bad decision! Like most of the food in Yellowstone, it was overpriced and worse than school cafeteria food. The French toast was okay, but the eggs were either powdered or frozen. Bacon was the only decent thing on the menu. Service was slow, so we opted for the buffet. Next time, we'll pack a box of granola bars or PopTarts!
