“OK, just.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2013

This was a canteen type experience where you go to the servers, choose your food and then line up to pay for it. The staff were friendly and the food was ok for what it was although overpriced, but I guess that's to be expected in a NP. The restaurant had a more relaxed feel but you need to book in advance or be prepared to wait. The cafe is fine if all you want to do is eat, don't expect it to be a 'dining experience'.

“OK for a Cafeteria”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2013

For a cafeteria and once you get over the prices it's okay...the choices can be limited at both breakfast and dinner. Had the prime rib dinner and despite the prime rib sitting under those lites...it was surprising good and was med rare as i like it and was a monstrous piece of beef. The servers wandering around the dining room seemed pleasant and always ready to help

“Food ok, service pretty bad”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2013

My husband and I stayed in Canyon Lodge for three nights and ate in the cafeteria for one dinner and one breakfast. Yellowstone isn’t known for it’s food, so we weren’t expecting much. First the good points, the food is actually pretty good. We both had the spinach tortellini and it was pretty tasty, however it was served with vegtables and potatoes… really, where have you ever seen this before? No garlic bread or other side that you might associate with pasta. Very strange. We also had a nice caesar salad to share as a side, nice crispy leaves and lots of sauce and cheese. The breakfast is also tasty, items are priced individually, so you can order whatever combination you like. We had scrambled egg, bacon and french toast. It was all pretty tasty. Both cold and hot beverages are refillable and they have lots of different crackers and jams available free.

Now for the bad, there really isn’t much choice for dinner and they don’t change the menu so I would imagine it would get boring pretty quickly. Secondly, the service was pretty bad. It’s not that the staff aren’t nice, they just seem a bit clueless and slow. The queue at 6pm was almost out the door. The morning we had breakfast there, there was a problem with the tills so receipts had to be done manually. I have never seen such slow progress. Luckily we were there early so weren’t delayed much, but by the time we left, there was huge queues with people’s food getting cold.

Overall, it’s ok. It’s not fine dining, but it is fine in a push. Personally though, we enjoyed our meal in the Fountain at the general store more and the prices are comparable.

“Nothing fancy, but good food served hot and quick”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2013

We had both dinner and breakfast at the cafeteria. The prices are reasonable, you can re-fill drinks, the place is clean and the food is hot. They have a pretty wide selection of items. The staff was friendly and helpful. It's a very good bargin.
We ate in the restaurant one night and were very disappointed. Wished we had gone back to the cafeteria.
