“Fun place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

The room was cozy and clean. The lobby and main area of the lodge is great and everyone making a trip to the park should stop in. It was a lot of fun to stay in the park and a good experience. Although because it is a popular attraction as well it was quite crowded. The rooms are fairly expensive with minimal amenities in the rooms (no tv, etc...), but well worth it for the experience and a stay in the park.

Room Tip: Get an Old Faithful view room if you can.

A treasure of late 19th charm and rustic elegance of our National Park hotels. Nothing fancy but warm even cozy feeling even filled with mult- dozens gawking happy tourists. We were there late Sept. still plenty of visitors and the weather perfect. Excellant local crafted gifts in the lobby shops, lodge rooms are clean, modest, as this is "old and historic"...... have wonderful mattresses We were happy we choose to stay here. Absolutely loved the interior resembling tree house. Outstanding............

Room Tip: Old lodge rooms towards Old Faithful. Get for one with a balcony

This soaring ceiling inn encircled with multiple indoor balconies has soul. Our 8 year old grandson was so excited seeing it for the first time, that he ran around with excitement and touched everything in sight (sorry). It is not without shortcomings, particularly that our 1 bed double room was cramped. It needed a little more room for storage. Particularly shelves could have been useful. TV addicts should be warned. There is only one TV in the park. They have gone green, and much energy is saved. For such an outpost, the dining room has a diverse menu and good food. For the most flexibility in reservations, it seems they need to be made a year ahead. There was a full moon our last evening, and a blue moon at that. People strolled out on the second floor open air balcony for that sight as well as Old Faithful geyser eruptions. As usual live piano and violin wafted from an indoor balcony. Some sat at a tables for a game of cards. There is a definite sense of place at this icon.

Room Tip: If a cramped room is difficult for a couple, get a room with two beds. They are more spacious.

Nearly everyone loves this old lodge, especially kids, and it a pleasure to see it through their eyes. The Old Faithful Inn is a national treasure, a beautiful log cabin on steroids. Don't expect much in the way of creature comforts; but consider your stay here an adventure, time travel in an astounding natural world.
Food in the dining hall was decent; we liked the prime rib and apple crisp. But don't expect much at breakfast, at least until next season, when there may be a new management company. Service was friendly and well meaning, but consistently amateurish. Every few minutes we would hear the crash of plates and glasses hitting the floor. Be sure to try the huckleberry ice cream sold just off the lobby.
Our teenage kids stayed in the lodge's older wing, where the rooms were considerably more charming and historic but lacked private bathrooms. Both our rooms, though, should have been better lit. It was generally too dark to read in bed.

We highly recommend staying at this hotel.

We stayed in an East Wing standard room. It was very clean, light and the bathroom very modern – it was the nicest room we stayed in in Yellowstone National Park.

As with all the Yellowstone Xanterra hotels, there is no in-room safe, fridge, TV or air-conditioning. The tea / coffee machine worked well.

The building is old so expect to hear footsteps and shower / toilets sounds from the room upstairs. Try requesting a room on the top floor, away from the stairs, elevator and vending machines.

Housekeeping serviced our room promptly each day, despite it being a very busy holiday weekend and despite a policy of servicing vacant rooms first to accommodate new guests.

The Old Faithful Inn has a great atmosphere – take the time to have a drink in the lobby, listen to the music and watch the people go by. The free historical tours are definitely worthwhile and also try a hamburger at the Bear Pit – they’re good.

We were surprised to find that there was no book-swap facility in the Xanterra hotels. A shelf of books where people can swap or borrow books (particularly given that there are no TVs) would be perfect!

Room Tip: Request a room on the top floor, away from the stairs, elevator and vending machines.

Outstanding historic hotel, very close to Old Faithful. From its balcony, you can watch old faithful erupt - a great sight particularly in the evening. The hotel is pricy, but worth at least a night. It is walking distance to many of the geysers. The rooms are not luxury, but good. The service is also good.

The Old Faithful Inn is.....old, but it's a two-minute walk to Old Faithful and a whole slew of other geysers and fumeroles. I saw the famous geyser go off at dawn, sunset and in between. The lodge is a beauty, even if the rooms (at least ours, on the ground floor and back side) are small and spartan. Still, it was comfortable, clean and well-stocked. The tour vans stop at the lodge, and there's a great upstairs, outdoor deck for viewing the scenery. The restaurant was average, and don't forget to make reservations for dinner, or you'll face a long wait for a table. There's a board behind the front desk that shows the next approximate eruption of Old Faithful, and there are stores, snack bars and a gas station close by. Our room in the back looked out on a little creek and trees, and, one afternoon, on a huge bison sitting and chewing his cud.

Room Tip: Book early, pay more for a room with "the View"
