“Very rustic cabins”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 26, 2012

We stayed in one of the cabins and it is an experience, but totally not worth the price you pay there. The cabins are old and rustic, not comfortable at all. It is very basic so all you pay is the location. However, the place is huge and the buildings with "normal" rooms looked quite OK (but even more expensive I think). Besides, the heating is not very good so it can easily be cold during the night.

The lodge was undergoing a massive renovation, and will affect your enjoyment of Canyon Village in general, not just the lodge, so check ahead to make sure they are finished before you plan on staying here, OR dinner here. That said, like most places here in Yellowstone, the dining is sub-par, the menu is the same throughout the park, as the same concession runs all of them. The food is poor (soggy grilled cheese at not one but 3 park restaurants, including this one!). The accomodations are sparse, not luxurious. This is pretty typical of lodges on the Park property itself; if you want luxury stay in one of the boutique hotels outside the park. I rated this place so poorly because of the construction project and the awful meal we had.

I stayed at Canyon Lodge and Cabins in July. For my husband and me, a small cabin was serviceable. The cabins are fairly rustic in a 70s sort of way, yet the high ceilings made them feel cozy. Parking here is easy, but the food services are very, very basic and of low quality. Wi-fi is an additional charge. We also took a morning horseback ride from the Canyon Corral down the road. This was a gorgeous and informative ride, one of the highlights of the trip!

We stayed in the cabins. The room was not clean, cobwebs and dusty, the shower was moldy.

We complained and felt it was not taken seriously because our room was not cleaned until 4 pm. We complained at 8 am.

Room Tip: I think the hotel rooms might be cleaner, but I really don't know.

Brilliant location. We stayed in the cabins, the accommodation is basic, it is clean, the beds are comfortable. We stayed in early September so the weather was good, not too hot or cold. Breakfast diner at the Village was excellent. The cafeteria was ok. The restaurant was also ok. The Village was about 600 metre walk from our cabin. Whilst basic accommodation we would definitely stay there again, the location is great it is within Yellowstone!

We stayed in the new hotel at the back of the facility. It was a dark walk to the centre where there are no end of shops and places to eat and the food is really really good. Amazing place, very quiet and I've never slept so well as I did here. The rooms are basic but spotless, comfy and well looked after. Great that there is no TV and enjoyed a relax after a hard days hiking just listening to any station we could get on the radio alarm clock and knocking back some Jim Beam. Great place. Would love to go back.

This was our quietest stay in the Yellowstone National Park, a very short drive from the Grand Canyon.

We stayed in Dunraven Lodge. We were surprised to find it was a 5 minute walk from the Registration Office but it was quiet - the building is relatively modern so the noise from the room upstairs was less noticeable than in other park hotels. The 5 minute walk to and from the dining room turned out to be a great chance to view bison grazing next to the cabins and lodges each evening.

As with all the Yellowstone Xanterra Hotels, there was no in-room safe, fridge, TV or air-conditioning.

Our bathroom was not cleaned to the standard of other hotels in the park – there were long, dark hairs on our bathroom floor from the day we arrived and the hairs were pushed round each day (by a mop?) but never cleared away. The housekeeping staff also failed to check that the coffee machine was clean.

Housekeeping issues aside, the room was comfortable and quiet.
