I recently spent 2 nights at the Old Faithful Snow Lodge while hiking in Yellowstone NP.
There are 3 lodge complexes at the Old Faithful area of the park, each with multiple lodging options - Old Faithful Inn, Old Faithful Lodge, and Old Faithful Snow Lodge. It is easy to get them confused.
Reviewers need to be very specific in their reviews as to which they stayed in so as to be useful to readers. Were I designing this review site, I would make sure each lodging option had its own review page so the ratings would not intermingled as they are now.
The Snow Lodge complex at Old Faithful consists of:
Lodge Rooms - full bathrooms, telephones, coffee makers, refrigerators and hair dryers are located in all the rooms.
Western Cabins - these units were built in 1989 and are situated in modules of four. Each is spacious and modernly furnished, typically with two queen size beds and full bathroom.
Frontier Cabins - simple duplex cabin-style units with a bathroom with shower, toilet and sink.
The Snow Lodge itself was completed in 1999 and is the newest of the park's full service hotels. This 3 story facility feels more like a modern hotel than a typically national park lodge. All of the sleeping rooms are on floors 2 and 3. The main floor consists mainly of the large lobby and lounge area, several restaurants, a bar and a gift shop. Rooms in the lodge contain either 1 king or 2 queen beds.
My room, #2025, was a king bed room and was very large, modern and quite comfortable. Unfortunately is was quite hot during my stay and the rooms are not air conditioned, but my room did have a window that opened and a counter top oscillating fan, which helped. My bed was very comfortable, and the area was quite at night. I slept very well here.
The wet facilities in the room were large and modern, a nice reprieve after staying at the Cooke City Alpine and a Frontier Cabin at Canyon Village. The toilet and tub/shower combo were in a separate room with a lockable door. The sink was in a large and nice lav top outside the bathroom.
The room also had lots of storage in 2 large hanger closets on either side of the window and window seat. Unfortunately, in my room, both closet doors were askew due to broken or misadjusted hinges. It is hard for me to believe that housekeeping doesn't see these every day in the room as they are very obvious. Come on Xanterra, get with it and fix the closet doors!
All in all I like this room and my stay at Snow Lodge. This is the nicest room in the park I have had in 3 visits to Yellowstone and I certainly would stay here again and recommend it to others that want a higher level of accommodation than an older NP lodge can offer.
My individual category ratings below averaged out to 4 even, so my overall rating for Snow Lodge is a 4 (very good) out of the 5 available TripAdvisor ratings.
