“Looks like science fiction”

The mounds of forming rock were unusual and fascinating. It's amazing to see land forming from the earth. We also sat in the boiling river. It was fun sitting in a natural spring that is like a warm jacuzzi.

“Breath-taking scenery”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2012

We did a tour of the upper loop organized by Bundubashers. We stayed in West Yellowstone for three nights. The tour picks you up at your hotel, in most cases, and they take you to the most scenic and interesting spots. Mammoth hot springs is eerily beautiful................due to the high acidity of the wet area, a lot of the trees are dead but lower vegetation is different from anything I've seen before. There are many pools of water which are a milky blue colour. The lichens, which give the area it's beautiful colour, are mostly, green, gold and brown. We saw terraces of pools, which looked like limestone filled with blue water, but don't be tempted to leave the path. We saw some small animals but no bears, bison or deer on that day. We also visited the yellowstone Grand Canyon, which is nothing like it's name sake, in size or appearance. It does have beautiful pinks and white/cream in the cliffs and the water is clear blue, rather than muddy brown. This park is much more beautiful than the Grand Canyon. Park entrance fee is very small and a general park fee can be purchased to cover all parks in 12 months. Even for two weeks it works out cheaper.

“Sadly dry due to drought”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2012

Sadly they were going through the same heat wave as the rest of the country and it was bone dry. There's nothing the park can do about it, Mother Nature has the trump card.

“Due to changing climate - this feature is way past it's prime.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2012

This was my second time to Yellowstone, and I was incredibly looking forward to photographing the Mammoth Hot Springs - until I got there. They are all but completely dried up. You can see where the water used to run, but now it is reduced to the very upper levels of the natural feature. So if you are going to stop to see them (which you should at least once) be sure to stop at the upper rim viewing area and save yourself the long crowded boardwalk hike up to the top since that is the area worth seeing anyway. This is the only part of the park I have seen trash on the ground, and it was upsetting. Most of it was getting pulled away from people due to the wind, which left quite a collection of hats down on the thermal feature. All in all over crowded and disappointing, but still part of the magic of Yellowstone. There's a fee for the overall park, but not for the individual locations.

“Best of the Park”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2012

Fun place to visit, lots of gift shops, scenic wonders, wildlife, grocery store, hiking. I'd make this my base for visiting the Park. Great dinning, the servers are helpful, friendly, polite. Especially in the finer dining room. The people who work there make all the difference and really go out of their way to make your dining experience pleasant. The desert is the best I've ever eaten. At breakfast I had the granola and yogurt which I would absolutely suggest. Garner is the entrance to the Park and it seems like a fun place also.
