“going back in time”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2013

this place was great. the menu is simple. it is a place for foodies who can laugh at how complex their food choices have gotten when they look at a menu with grits, eggs and country ham. Not cheese grits but plain old grits like your mom would make. I had to draw the line at the lipton tea bags and pull out real tea leaves. Sorry, i can't negotiate on my caffeine in the morning.

“One of a kind experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2013

Once upon a time, you went to the legendary Vienna Inn for a Chili Dog AND verbal abuse from Mollie and her servers who made it enjoyable to be literally insulted or otherwise tormented while ordering or eating. Mollie sold the place so abuse slacked off, but the Chili Dogs and small diner atmosphere remain. It's not much to look at inside and out, but that is part of the experience.

“Gone Downhill”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2013

I've been going to the Vienna Inn for at least 30 years. It was a great place for lunch or to watch a Redskins game. Having grown up on West Virginia hot dogs, mustard, onions and chili, the Vienna Inn's hot dogs were the next best thing to home. I've only been back a few times since Mollie, the previous owner sold the place. This last trip was quite a disappointment. The chili was bland, the buns weren't steamed and the onions weren't chopped properly, with big chunks. I also got something crunchy on my dog and it wasn't an onion. Such a shame, as this has been a Vienna landmark for over 50 years.

“Chili Dog Heaven”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2013

Fourth of July would just not be the great holiday it is without a trip to the Vienna Inn. A Northern Virginia tradition for decades, Hubby and I have been coming here since we first met – 34 years ago. We always get the chili dogs with onions and mustard – what is it with people who like cheese in all that? Splitting an order of the delish shoestring fries (have to get them without seasoning for Hubby, the wimp) and either a cold draft beer or soda. Disclosure: We have never had anything else other than the chili dogs. When we lived in the Shenandoah Valley for a few years, we still would drive to Vienna Inn for our chili dog fix. However, as we sit, waiting for our dogs, chops slobbering in anticipation, we do notice that the food hitting the other tables looks dang good.
Vienna Inn does not put a lot of capital into appearance. It caught fire several years ago, closed for renovations, and looked exactly like it did the hour before the fire started. No one shows you to your table, you just eyeball a table and make a bee-line for it. The wait staff are all high school or college students. (I do miss that rough-tongued older waitress; she certainly could keep her dining room in order.) Don’t ask for a check. It’s the honor system here. After eating just go to the cashier and recite what you ate. Please remember to leave something in the tip jar for your server.
Darn. Now I’m back thinking about those chili dogs. I wish they were closer to Old Town!

“This place is a dump but a delicious dump”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 4, 2013

Favorite food, chicken salad, as recommended by the waitress. The bathroom is a tricky place to visit. The vinyl benches are all torn up. But this place is always crowded. The food is good. It is not a clean restaurant. Parking could be a challenge. It is easy to find right off of Maple Ave. It has a long history to it. I just cringe when my family says lets eat here, but I know the chicken salad will be great.
