“Indian version of McDonald's.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2014

Amma's restaurant is in a great location on Maple Avenue in Vienna, Va. The parking lot is a little small, but there is plenty parking at the locations surrounding. When I walked into this restaurant and saw the Styrofoam containers, I got the feeling I was in India's version of McDonald's. The food was pretty good. The portions were large enough for my sister and I to share a meal. The only downfall was they did not have Samosa's, which was the first item on the menu. Although I am not a vegetarian, I can see myself frequenting this restaurant in the near future and frequently.

Highly recommend.

“Authentic South Indian Vegetarian option in the DC area”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 10, 2014

The coffee was really very good and neccessary after many days of drinking the starbucks kind.
The Dosa, Poori, Vada were all good. While the Sambhar was terrific, the chutney was more like 'average' which is possibly because fresh coconut must be difficult to come by everyday.
Saw another customer take away what I thought was very good avial.

While one can praise the palaghat cooking, the service was quite 'unfriendly'. The older of the two men calls out your order number like a threat 'daamn thing is ready, better pick it up now or .....' is the attitude that comes across in the voice and tone :)

If you are in the DC area, landing or taking off at the airport dont miss this restaurant. The service may not put you at ease, but that is only when you compare it with other US restaurants and not the college hostel or canteen you were used to in India!

“OK place in Tysons area”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2013

Of the few pure vegetarian south Indian restaurants available in Tysons corner area, VA this is an OK place to eat south Indian snacks or meals. Mysore Coffee is the best. Recommended for a quick lunch.

“Nostalgic food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2013

This is a small take out diner that serves South Indian food. The food is good, not great, but for those who yearn their own home food there aren't many places like this around DC area. This is not a real restaurant, more like a fast food place. You have to order your food at the counter and pick them up and find your own tables. It is not very expensive, and the service is pretty quick. The location is about 5 minutes from tyson's corner and ample parking is available. Overall, good South Indian food.
