“Good selection of lunch specials”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2012

Love the lunch specials. I get main course, well prepared soup, and delicious egg roll. The dish clearly does not taste like a mass produced meal or leftovers unlike many lunch specials in some Chinese restaurants. I like the modern decor that is not so typical chinese restaurants.

“Finally, an AUTHENTIC CANTONESE restaurant in Vienna”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 12, 2012

Only a few months old, Lotus Garden serves a packed house on weekends, and is pretty full during the week as well. Roast ducks and pork quarters hang in a window adjacent to lobster and crab tanks in the rear of the restaurant. A noodle chef can be observed hand-pulling noodles for a variety of delicious soups. The menu in Chinese and English is extensive with authentic items not seen in Americanized Chinese restaurants: lotus root, turnip and pigskin, small clams, casserole dishes, etc. but many more recognizable choices are also available. We are slowly working our way through the menu, sometimes with the guidance of Chinese dinner companions. We shared a succulent lobster the other night. It was expertly sectioned and cracked, making the moist and deliciously flavored meat easy to extract. Easily one of the very best lobsters we have ever been served. We were somewhat disappointed with the pancakes that accompanied Peking Duck; they were not the lightest or most delicate wraps that we had experienced. Same for the wonton wrappers. Shrimp with candied walnuts was well executed: huge prawns, lightly flash-fried, covered with a mayonnaise dressing, and surrounded with crisp broccoli florets and candied walnuts. The eggplant casserole was delicious, but request it with beef ribs or pork riblets, because the "ground pork" on the English menu makes only a cameo appearance. Note that at least 3/4 of the diners are Chinese; that says something positive about the authenticity of the cuisine. There is parking in front, but it gets scarce on weekends. Take-out is available, but no delivery is offered.
