This is a must-do if you are spending time in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Located in Hot Springs, the site was originally intended to be a housing development until mammoths were discovered during excavation. Now a building surrounds the excavation site and visitors listen as a guide describes the entire process from discovery to the current excavation. Our children enjoyed seeing the giant mammoth bones as well as seeing scientists doing actual digging. Well worth the admission fee and drive from Mt. Rushmore.
