“Fabulous Old World/but Modern Luxury Hotel in Downtown Cincinnati”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2010

We had a wedding celebration weekend in Cincinnati over Labor Day Weekend. I booked about 25 rooms at he the Netherland Hilton and it exceeded all expectations. The hotel has an old world charm with an updated elegant look. The staff did everything possible to make our guests feel special. Rooms were large and had wonderful bathrooms and amenities. Many of our guests came from the East Coast and had comments such as "similar to the Waldorf Astoria, but better!" Location was perfect. Walking distance to Fountain Square, great shopping and restaurants. I give this hotel the highest recommendation. I worked with Lori and Kelly, both of whom were attentive to all our needs before, during and after our event.

Everything about this hotel was amazing! Clean, comfortable beds, great view of the Ohio River. Just remember to bring your own hair dryer, theirs is a tiny one.

In the past, we've stayed at this hotel mainly because of it's incredible and mostly original French Art Deco public spaces...but I've always been underwhelmed by the rooms. This time, being the first time we've stayed after its take over by Hilton, everything was great. We were given a corner room with a king bed, full living room and walk-in closet. The updated decor was lovely and the quality of the bed linen was superb. New carpeting, pleasant wallpaper and new furniture simply blew away our room from when the hotel was owned by Omni.

The staff at the reception desk were pleasant and very helpful. The hotel, including the public spaces as well as the rooms, was spotlessly clean.

I doubt one can find a better example of 1930's French Art Deco anywhere in the States...and now the accommodations are finally up to snuff.

My husband booked 2 nights at this Hilton property. He had business in Cincy on Friday and then my son and I were meeting him for a Friday night Reds/Cubs game. My husband asked at check in for assurance that he was not going to have to deal with bed bugs (Cincinnati rates 4th in the country right now on some scary Terminix press release of worst cities for bed bug infestations). The manager in charge escorted my husband and his colleague to their separate rooms and took the time to show each (a) how to find evidence of bed bugs (strip each layer of bedding near your head down to the mattress, checking each layer for material or blood AND removing the headboard to check for bed bugs there too!) and (b) that there were no bed bugs in these rooms. What a reassuring, helpful management team! The fellow told my husband that Hilton's housekeepers had a lot of training in this area and were super vigilant. Later the Managing Director of the hotel had a note delivered to each of their rooms thanking them for bringing their concerns to his team. We appreciated the team's straightforward communication style and willingness to inspect our room in front of us. This bed bug problem continues to make me nervous about hotel travel - but I'm not nervous about this Hilton. It's clean!
Meanwhile, the room was spacious and up to date. The elevators ran in quick fashion - I had reviewed this property a few years ago and had complained about the slow elevators - the hotel seemed pretty busy during our stay but it seems like the problem was fixed?
This is a great hotel to use as a base for walking to/from the Reds stadium. Go Reds!!

We were quoted $109 for one night. The bill came the next morning for $160! $21 for parking - really? $10 for a movie that we never requested and later removed after I complained. The other $20 is state, city, and county tax. The rooms & bathrooms are old and gross. Stay away!

This hotel has a certain magical quality about it, probably a function of its art deco beauty, height, old (but fast) elevators, and historic charm. I really enjoy staying here...it's a grand old hotel and nice change of pace from the typical boxy chain hotel.

Service was excellent- speedy, welcoming, and informative check-in. An upgrade to a charming suite in recognition of my Hilton Diamond status. Evening turn-down with ice, water, and a box of local chocolates. Speedy internet.

I like the rooms here. They are on the smallish side, because it's an old hotel, but the space is well-used (ample working area, etc.). They have character, like pedastal sinks and old toilets. My room was a little worn around the edges- probably this hotel will be due for a room facelift soon, but I was willing to overlook some worn wallpaper and dull chrome in the name of charm and history. (The public spaces are stunning, although the attached mall has seen better days.)

The hotel gives free access to a gym that is quite nice, but closes at 9p. The business center was great, with free printing. Valet, on the basement level, was fast and polite. I did have to laugh that the last poster you see on the way to the valet is an historic one that discusses the Omni Netherland Plaza, even though this has been a Hilton for years.

Overall, great stay.

How you do here really depends on the room you are assigned. I was first assigned a room on the 11th floor facing towards the river - but directly even with the huge cooling towers on the building across from the hotel. These towers boomed noisily which would make it impossible to sleep, although I am a light sleeper. I went back to the front desk and asked to be reassigned. They first gave me a parlor room, which is used for corporate entertaining. The room was large but had a rollaway bed. However, the real problem was that there were french doors to a terrace, letting in all the lights from downtown. A third try netted a room the size of a closet. Also surprisingly for a business hotel, there is no wireless internet, forcing you to only access the internet from a desk. The internet also seemed somewhat antiquated. When trying to sign in after the initial sign in, I had to call the service provider to reset the ip address to get the computer (a mac) to be recognized. Business center is not staffed and confusing. Also on the same floor as the ballroom with lots of loud music from parties. People try to be helpful but it was just one thing after another. The building itself is beautiful but facilities seem dated - old tv and ac units. There seem to be many hotels in the vicinity, most of which appear to be more up to date. I would investigate those before staying here.
