I love to travel and check out new cities, and I jumped at the chance to visit Cincy to see a ball game with my beloved. Unfortunately, I was very busy prior to the trip, so I let someone else arrange the lodging, and didn't check my trusty TripAdvisor. Now I see all kinds of reviews corroborating my horrendous experience.
As soon as we arrived and saw the poor condition of the parking garage (not to mention the somewhat, er, downscale neighborhood), we were skeptical. The sullen clerk at the desk checking us in did not raise our spirits, nor did the ride up the smelly elevator. When we stepped out, we couldn't believe the filthy stains on the carpets in the hallway... ... ... The room was dated and musty. The bathroom was cleaner than the rest of the place but in disrepair, with the sink counter missing a face panel, exposing plywood that could catch your clothes or scratch you.
After deeming the bathroom passably clean, I immediately stripped off the covers and inspected for bedbugs, but, seeing none and being in a hurry to get to the stadium (a wonderful ballpark), I decided we could suck it up for one night and chose not to beg my boyfriend to find us a different hotel, even though I was pretty disappointed in the venue.
Always trust your instincts...
After a really fun evening, we made our way back to the hotel on foot. I was nervous as hell. At first my darling thought me silly and teased me, but, as we walked in the night, he spotted two shady guys, who started following us! Fortunately, we didn't get into any trouble then.
Knowing that the hotel would have NO amenities to speak of, I insisted we grab a few bottles of water for the room, at the convenience store across the street. The place looked like a mecca for criminals, teeming with shady characters. It felt like at any moment a gun could appear and something awful might happen.
We hurried out of there and went back to our room, downed a shot of vodka to calm our nerves, and went to sleep on a mushy mattress and scratchy sheets. Ugh.
But wait, there's more. Somewhere in the night, I felt something in the bed... it seemed like a pebble. In a haze of sleep I found it and tossed it away, but it landed on the edge of the bed. I remembered it upon awakening in the morning, and decided to inspect the "pea" that had been disturbing this princess in her sleep. See the photo, if you can handle something truly vile.
NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER book this health-hazard of a hotel.
Other than that, it really was a wonderful trip!
