“Love the separate bedrooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2013

I spent 3 nights here with a friend and this hotel is like an apartment. Comes with a full kitchen, dining room, living room and 2 bedrooms. Each bedroom has it's own tv, but they are not flat screens, but I can handle that. It was nice to have some privacy so my friend and I didn't get on each others nerves.

The beds were pretty comfortable, not too soft, but not too hard. Each room had a large walk in closet, though my friends room's closet had the hot water heater in it, which was a bit cheap looking.

The kitchen comes with some dishes so if you wanted to cook you could, but who cooks on vacation! Cincinnati is full of great places to eat! I recommend the Rock Bottom Brewery. The food was average but the house brewed beers were delicious.

The only complaint, which to me doesn't matter, but some people expect perfection is the suite needs some renovations. There are some places where the paint is peeling or wallpaper torn. The front of the bathroom counter was just a piece of particle board which looked really cheap.

The front desk staff was extremely helpful in telling us places to visit and eat and even had coupons for several area places.

Overall, the trip to Cincinnati was successful, and while the Garfield Suites may not be the most glamorous, it has that feel of home and allows some privacy over the normal hotel room. I'll definitely stay here again!

We were going to see a Cincinnati Bengals game and needed a hotel that was within walking distance so we wouldn't have to pay for parking. We arrived to a very helpful staff who guided us on where we were to park and when our room would be ready. We really didn't know what to expect after getting this one bedroom suite for $99. We were pleasantly surprised to come into a clean room that included a living room, a kitchen, and a bedroom. We had all the amenities we needed to stay there for two days. One of the days that we were there, we went down to the hotel café. The food was good and reasonably priced. If we are in Cincinnati again, we will definitely stay here!

I've visited Cincinnati several times; staying at the Garfield gave me a fresh look on a great city. There aren't a lot of "bells & whistles" at the Garfield - the restaraunt and bar area was so small we didn't even try to squeeze in, and there was no business center that I could find - but the modern feel of an old hotel and the stellar service more than made up for any lack in flash. The upgrade to the Ulysses S. Grant suite sure didn't hurt. Very cool! Oh, and the fitness center looked very new and full of nice equipment, although I didn't use it.

Rented a two bedroom downtown. Had 4 people altogether, 2 per room. Spilt a bag of chips on floor, cleaned up as much as I could without a vacuum. Left crums on ground and got charged and additional 100$ . Hair on beds , library next store blocks view , out dated would never stay there again and would not recommend a friend stay there.

We needed to stay in Cincinnati with our two young children and anyone who has tried to cram themselves into a hotel room with kids knows it's hard to get them to actually go to sleep when you're all in one room. When I found the Garfield Suites, I was ecstatic. Many hotels claim to have suites at high prices when all they really have is a half wall separating the beds from the couch. These are real and true suites, with actual separate rooms, more like an apartment really. We got a two bedroom suite that was better priced than many standard hotels. The bedrooms are a good size. The living room area is comfortable. The full kitchen is incredibly helpful, especially the dishwasher for all those baby bottles! There was even a nice little balcony that overlooked the beautiful library across the street. We ate at the restaurant once and enjoyed it. There was a lot we could walk to and it was a short drive to the Newport Aquarium. The staff was kind and helpful. If I had a complaint at all, it was just that we had to walk to a ramp to get our car, but it's a downtown hotel in a major city, so that's really to be expected. There's actually a tunnel we could take from the hotel to the ramp. It was a little confusing to get through, but can save the trouble of having to walk outside to get there. I would and have highly recommended the Garfield Suites to others.

I stay at the Garfield numerous times a year on business trips to Cincinnati, and consistently have found it to be a comfortable, secure, and pleasant experience. Above all, the staff is makes the place, from the desk help to the shuttle drivers and restaurant service, each ready to help as needed.

Some reviewers note that the place can use updating; perhaps, but the rooms are always clean (and if not, it is quickly addressed) and certainly have ample space. I found the ambience much more appealing than the cookie-cutter sameness of many other area hotels. And the location allows for a wide experience of the downtown area, with numerous choices for restaurants and activities within walking distance.

My wife and I stayed at Garfield Suites Hotel through a room block for an event we were attending in the neighborhood. The good: true apartment sized suite had plenty of room--two bedrooms to be exact. The bad: the suite had the look and feel of a college apartment. It was fully equipped--full-sized appliances, etc., a wide screen TV in the living room, but old-picture tube style sets in the bedrooms. It could be a great place if the ownership would sink millions into a renovation to bring it up to current hotel standards. Our suite was fine, but shabby. Don't book here if you are used to hotel luxury and high thread count bedding.

It's in a convenient, downtown location. Self-parking with in-out privileges at $10 per night is available in an attached public garage, not a bad price for a downtown hotel in a large city.

Looking at the other reviews, many seem to feel it's a love it or hate it kind of place. For the price it rates a not bad.

One kind of quirky thing that we noticed is a fairly constant 2-3 guest line at the front desk. Be prepared to wait awhile whenever you want to talk to a desk clerk or to have your parking ticket validated.
