I just came home from my third visit to Hugo, and I have to say it was fantastic. The first time I went (more than a year ago), I wasn't particularly impressed with the food. Friends keep giving me gift certificates, though, (because I'm from the South?) so I've returned twice. Tonight I had the Hugo salad (delicious--field greens, goat cheese, bacon, cold new potatoes, Pommery mustard vinaigrette and impossibly thin strips of fried potato) and a monkfish entree (so light--accompanied by mache and radish with a red grapefruit vinaigrette/section and house-made creme fraiche).
Each of the three visits, service has been ever-so-slightly slow, but extremely gracious, so I have no complaints whatsoever (to be fair, it was a very busy night tonight). If you haven't been, please go. I was told that they're rolling out their new spring menu very soon and am sure it's fabulous.
I'm so glad I gave Hugo a second chance--they've made a believer out of me.
