Definitely a place to visit for the excellent views, and for ardent photographers, without the hindrance of dirty windows and reflections. It’s not a straightforward place to find the entrance to. There are actually four of them. What could be considered the main one is on Vine St opposite the Westin Hotel. It’s between the Subway [food] and Mortons. There’s a covered footbridge above. As an aside, I noticed many building linked by these bridges. There’s another entrance on Race St, between the Hilton Netherland Plaza hotel and Radio Shack. Again, a footbridge above. An entrance on 5th, with a footbridge above. A fourth entrance appeared to be blocked off undergoing building works at the time of visit in Sept 2013.
The lift, nearest the Vine St entrance takes you up to 45. Exit, then follow the sign to the left to a small 4 person lift up to 48. It’s nowhere near as scary as some people have made it out to be. Scary is finding yourself jammed in to a corner of a lift for 70 floors by a 30+ stone guy oozing an assortment of fluids from both visible and hidden orifices, with a smell that could drop a water buffalo. Three short flights of steps take you to the ticket desk. $2 then enjoy the view.
