“Good food near the tracks”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2012

There is a good chance a train or two will pass by while eating at the Iron Horse. Great if you are a trainspotter, not great if you are meeting someone for a dinner appointment.

The food is good, not excellant, not bad. The prices are honest, not outrageous nor cheap.

I've posted a few photos of the food and building exterior.

“Excellent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2012 via mobile

Enjoyed my dinner. Very flavorful soup (butternut squash bisque). Warm sliced bread from Baguettes. Really enjoyed the Penne uBriache, which was a al dente cooked penne in a brandy cream sauce with ground sausage.

Service was attentive. Finally, had soft finger style guitar by Tom Laskey in the background through the meal.

Definitely Will return in the future.

“Delicious”

We enjoyed delicious, unusual gourmet food and excellent service. The cheerful staff was also extremely careful working around our food restrictions. Definitely worth a detour.

“Not impressed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 19, 2012

We ate at the Iron Horse because it could accommodate a large party for a special event. The decor was nice enough. The waiter was pleasant but a bit disorganized; he took appetizer orders from both ends of the table but skipped several people in the middle. It took a long time for him to return to get all the orders in. The crab cake appetizers were just ok, although the crab tasted canned and not sweet. The mushroom crostini was appealing to most, although a bit salty. The salads were ok, nothing special for $4-6 extra per diner. Seven of us ordered steak (4 strips and 3 filets) and ALL of the steaks were overcooked. Three of the steaks were sent back for replacement, two ate the overdone steak, and two decided not to eat at all. At least one of the plates was served with old tasting garnish. When the steaks were replaced, one of the medium rare orders came back rare on the sides and utterly raw in the center. We sent it back for re-fire and finally the steak was cooked properly and tasted good. The sides were also replaced with fresh, much better tasting vegetables. Two of us ordered sea bass. The fish was a tiny, greasy portion and served over undercooked risotto with cream that tasted like it had been sitting in the fridge for too long. It was supposed to be served with "ancho chile chimichurri", but it was covered instead with an oily pesto sauce. The whole dish was entirely too heavy. Neither of us ate the risotto. A couple people ordered pasta dishes and both were pleased with the pasta. The kids meals were fine. Desserts were well-received overall (carrot cake, chocolate torte, and creme brûlée), although the torte was not quite as "fudgy" tasting as I'd like. The waiter and manager were quite apologetic about the beef and comped several meals. The meal quality does not justify the price of over $50 per person (with app, salad, entree, dessert, and drink) in this restaurant.

“Good Quiet Dining, Great Food, Pleasant Atmosphere”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 17, 2012

Very good food, from the salad the the cheescake. I enjoyed the historic atmosphere surrounding the restaurant and it sits along the tracks that gave it its name " The Iron Horse". Super service, very enjoyable.
