“Brown Dog Cafe...Consistently Great”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2013

I just had dinner with a work group at the Brown Dog Cafe. As is so often the case at the Brown Dog Cafe the service was great and the food was superb. The menu changes frequently, but regularly features a wonderful and diverse offering of wild game (Tonight Venison, Wild Boar, Quail) along with Fresh Fish brought in daily from Hawaii and classics like the NY Strip and also Scallops.

First time visitors might be suprised by its location in a "strip mall" next to a Subway restaraunt. Don't be deterred, the "Brown Dog" is fantastic.

Whats better than fresh food prepared by a trained chef, without the outrageous price?!! Lovely atmosphere, clean, fabulous service with awesome food. Can't go wrong!

“A great hole-in-the-wall ....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

A small, nicely decorated, upscale place in a small strip center .... you can drive by and never see it! The food is gourmet and excellent. Not cheap and call ahead to be sure they can seat you.

The baby blue salad create by Chef Shawn is wonderful. I do not care for bacon that much but on this salad it is wonderful. It is a great start to any meal!

“Experience was nice, but it did seem overpriced”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2013

I went to the Brown Dog Cafe after reading about it in the Cincinnati Magazine. My wife and I both love to visit small, family-owned restaurants and this one sounded wonderful based on its reviews.

I ordered a special for the evening (Steak and Cake) which consisted of a petite filet and crab cake with a side of fries and my wife ordered the duck wellington. My filet was nice but the crab cake was disappointing and under-seasoned. The duck wellington my wife ordered was also a little disappointing. It was slightly under-cooked and its pairing with couscous didn't provide much of a texture variation throughout the dish, everything seemed to be soft and chewy.

The atmosphere and service were both outstanding so that helped make up for the disappointment on the food.

Overall it was still a good trip, but the food was definitely overpriced in our opinion.
