“Eye opening”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2013

Always good to take a look at where our nation has come from. I left here feeling depressed in some ways and inspired in some ways. The exhibit about how slavery still exists in the world and even in our country (sex trade etc) brought tears to my eyes. If you have the time, please visit. I believe it cost $12 per person. FYI: The website and the outgoing message had conflicting information about hours of operation. I believe the Sunday we were there (August 25) was the last Sunday of the season the building would be open. The guy at the desk said that the info online was typically accurate as it was easier to update than the outgoing phone message.

“Start with Brothers of the Borderland”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2013

The short video following a girl escaping was well done and worth watching. I would recommend watching the movie first, then going thru the exhibits. The exhibits are just ok. The museum did not seem to have a good flow.

“Beautiful modern museum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2013

A beautiful modern facility located downtown with a great view of Roebling Bridge and the Ohio River. We didn’t know anything about the museum and arrived about one hour before closing. This was a big mistake as we could have easily spent 2-3 hours exploring the museum. There are many interactive exhibits that can be useful teaching opportunities for children. I suggest that you ask for the free audio guide when you buy your ticket because didn’t find any guides to answer questions. The next time we visit we will be sure to allow more time to appreciate the museum and gift shop.

“Educational and Moving”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2013

I recommend this stop if you are in Cincinnati- the exhibits paint a clear picture of slavery and the underground railroad and are very professionally done. My kids (10 and 18) initially weren't excited about doing something "educational" on our vacation, but in the end they were glad we did-- their eyes were opened to the reality of slavery. I think children under 10 might be bored, so keep that in mind if bringing a family. But, for older kids and adults, it is definitely worth the stop.

“Provides a lot of information.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2013

The real slave pen is a nice feature, but the many displays to read became too much for our daughter who is not much of a reader. We spent the most time in the interactive children's portion of the museum. While we are glad we decided to stop at this museum, we are not likely to return. The admission and parking costs are too steep to encourage a return visit.
