Bakersfield is a great no-nonsense place for nice margaritas and delicious "street style" tacos. The menu is relatively simple, with chips and salsa/guacamole, a couple of salads, sandwiches, and about 7 or so tacos.
The guacamole accompanying the chips was creamy and fresh and the house cured jalapenos or tomatillo salsas added a little heat. The tacos were excellent - creative takes on street tacos with great combinations which worked well. The fish tacos with a bit of a slaw were delicious. They have the classic pastor taco with its nice mix of pork, pineapple, cilantro and onion. The short rib taco was excellent , very tender meat with fresh cheese on top; and the cochinita was a nice take on the carnitas, although I would have liked a bit more kick from the habanero salsa. The margaritas were very good- among the best I've had- the right balance of salty, sweet and tart - perfectly judged in terms of strength as well. There are also a number of craft brews on tap. The place was jam packed on a Sunday for lunch and from the looks of it, everyone was truly enjoying the great food. Value is great- tacos at $3 and $4 each and chips and guacamole at $6, two of us walked out stuffed for about $40. Worth a special trip into Over the Rhine for this one.
