“Convenient for a business traveler with a car”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 16, 2013

This is the second time I have stayed in this hotel - the first time strictly business, and the second time a combination of business and family time. Both times the service and the room were excellent, and we especially appreciated one of the staff's (Vicki) successful attempts to entertain our toddler and thus thwart his tantrum. The university area location is a boon to business travelers, but the neighborhood in which it is situated does not have a variety of dining and entertainment options - so a car (or taxi) is suggested if you would rather hit the riverfront or downtown.

Although a beautiful new property in an ideal location, the hotel provides a poor guest experience due to unhelpful and surly staff and management. Recently we stayed there for Cincinnati's Flying Pig Marathon weekend. The hotel did not recognize participants or make any special arrangements whatsoever. In fact, they did just the opposite: They put a sign out at the desk informing us all that there would be NO extended checkouts. What a waste of a wonderful opportunity to build loyalty and welcome potentially regular guests!! It wouldn't have cost the hotel anything to extend checkouts for runners. Instead, they made us all angry and inconvenienced us. Welcome to Cincinnati, chumps!

The hotel was excellent - new, clean and very comfortable. But between the hotel and the downtown Cincinnati area was a neighborhood that I was advised NOT to walk through. Downtown Cincinnati is only a few miles away and I always like to walk... but if you are looking for a hotel where you can walk to things, this is not the place to stay.

Thank you for reviewing our hotel so favorably and we are glad that you enjoyed your stay. Downtown Cincinnati is about a 2-3 mile walk from the hotel and yes, there are some areas (as in any downtown area in any city) that are less welcome than others. When a guest at our hotel asks for reccommendations for dining or leisurely walks, our staff always suggests that guests be aware of their surroundings and offers locations where they (the staff) are personally comfortable. Again, than you for the review and we hope when/if you return to Cincinnati, you will choose our hotel.

While the room itself was great, the front desk staff was less than helpful. We called because we got lost. We told the clerk where we were (Nixon St) he said he never heard of it. It was TWO blocks away. We were in town for the Flying Pig and it would have been nice had the hotel offered an early breakfast for all the runners that were staying there. The hotel really isnt in the best neighborhood and didnt feel extremely safe walking to the "restaurants" (and I use that term losely) nearby.

Room Tip: They DONT have a restauant!

Thank you very much for your taking time to write a review about our hotel. I understand that you had some issues that inconvenienced you and I truly apologize for this.
I am so sorry that our staff was not more helpful, we strive for our team to learn the area around the hotel when they come on board as new employees as some employees are not originally from Cincinnati, we will make it our top priority to familiarize them better and quicker.
I am especially disappointed that you felt unsafe at our hotel as it is located in a typical college town within one block of UC Main Campus and within walking distance of many restaurants.
Our main concern is for all our guests’ safety and I appreciate you bringing this issue up to my attention so that our staff can advise our guests making reservations that it is a "college town" and that they should always be aware of the area they are traveling in.
Your feedback is incredibly important to us and I can assure you that we are taking your comments into consideration.
Again, I truly regret and inconveniences you went through and hope that you give us another chance of staying with us if you are every around our area.
Sincerely,
Valarie Orr

We stayed at this hotel on one previous occasion and again the night before our son's graduation. During our son's time at University of Cincinnati, we used to stay at less expensive hotels away from campus. Once we started staying at the Uptown Hampton, we did not want to go back to the cheaper hotels. The staff members at the Uptown Hampton are extremely friendly, the hotel is new, the rooms are exceptionally clean, and the location is superb. The hotel was full to capacity the last weekend of April for UC graduation, and apparently management had stepped up and staffed up to serve the high volume.

I realize that 'complimentary' breakfast won't be the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York! However, the really bad quality of eggs, bacon, etc. that the hotel offered was such that we decided to skip the breakfast (after tasting a small amount) and we went out and found a chain restaurant. Powdered eggs, horrible! Skip the 'free' breakfast or perhaps just make it 'continental' with coffee, juice, bagels, toast, etc.

Modern hotel near the University of Cincinnati and Ludlow area. Room was modern with flat panel TV, walk-in shower, and spacious. No microwave or refrigerator in the room. Room was on the third floor overlooking parking lot. Breakfast had a lot of variety and staff members were available for assistance. Breakfast items were immediately re-stocked when taken and staff members came by to ask if anything else was needed. Overall a great stay!

Room Tip: Rooms in the corner are quite and away from main hallway traffic. There is a daily charge for parki...
