“Great Visit!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 4, 2013

Cinthia and Rich were most gracious hosts. They gave us great advice on dinner restaurants, and even made the reservation for us. The breakfasts were tasty and casual, with lots of visiting among guests and hosts. The entire house was always locked, and parking is convenient in back. We came from northern Idaho and met our friends from the Seattle area, who also stayed at the Fat Duck. We look forward to a return visit.

Room Tip: We had the Widgeon Room, which is on the lower floor, with plenty of lounging room in addition to th...

My husband and I stayed in the Merganser Room and found it to be spacious and lovely. Rich and Cynthia were great hosts - personable, helpful (enjoyed Pioneer Park!) and laughed together many times. Breakfasts by Rich were fantastic! We'll be back!

The building and grounds are gorgeous and Cynthia and Rich are wonderful hosts. We really enjoyed the delicious breakfasts and the good local advice/directions from the owners. We felt so comfortable here and really hated to leave!

Room Tip: Pintail Suite is huge with a large bathroom. It's near the back and is very quiet.

My wife and I stayed at the Fat Duck Inn during a wine celebration in Walla Walla and absolutely loved the place - we will return!

We stayed in the large room ove what was once the garage - very spacious with a walk in closet, private bath etc. The bed was large and comfortable, with very nice linens.

A B&B is not a hotel, it is a different experience. Much of the quality of that experience is determined by the folks who run it, and I cannot imagine a more pleasant couple than Cynthia and Rich. They are very knowledgeable of the wines and wineries in the area (and are well known and well-respected, be sure to drop their names!), but mostly they are just so much fun; they both have great senses of humor, they are friendly and relaxed, and you feel like an old friend right away.

Rich is a very gifted chef, ask about his experience. He prepares a fantastic breakfast every day, not heavy but delicious. They have home-made warm muffins, individual frittatas, fruits, cereals, coffee and tea. Just a very relaxing way to start the day, and you can choose do breakfast while chatting with them, as we did, or to sit on the nice patio or the porch, or in the dining room.

There are 5 rooms and we're trying to figure out which couples to take with us to take over the whole property when we return. If you're thinking of a B&B, highly recommended.

On a move from Montana to the Olympic Peninsula, we decided to take the scenic route, taking pause for a night in Walla Walla. We reserved a room at the Fat Duck Inn a few weeks ahead of time, and we do have one big regret about this decision...which is, we wish we would have planned for TWO (three?) nights! Our stay at the Fat Duck Inn was our first at a B &B, and we fear that it may have spoiled us. In a word: Lovely. Not in that offhanded, British sense of the word, but really, truly lovely. We were thrilled on so many levels.

To begin with, the Fat Duck Inn has the basics dialed in: Easily navigable website/reservation process, easy to find, centrally located (easy walking distance from superb dining), and convenient off-street parking...but that’s not where it ends. The proprietor, Cynthia, greeted us at the door as if we were her own guests (which essentially, I guess we were, but you know what I mean...). After a brief orientation to the facility, she offered us a glass of wine, graciously answering all of our questions about dining in the area, how to get around, etc., then left us to get settled into our room. The room was spotless, comfortably furnished, and attention to detail was evident everywhere. (Read: slippers, bathrobes, eco-friendly toiletries...) Very comfortable. After a fabulous dinner in a restaurant recommended by Cynthia, we returned to the Fat Duck and had a convivial chat with a few of the other guests over tea, then retired for a very quiet, peaceful rest on the comfortable bed (nice linens!) The next morning, Chef Rich turned out a breakfast to die for, including fresh fruit garnished with edible flowers, and a melt-in-your mouth frittata unlike any I have had before. Had we been staying on Thursday, Friday or Saturday, we would have been delighted to experience a dinner prepared by him- something that is now on the ever growing list of things we want to do the next time we are in Walla Walla.

I hesitate to use such played out words like “quality” and “value” to describe the Fat Duck Inn, but they convey the simple truth. The value is unbeatable, and every touch from the locally made hand soap in the bathroom, to fresh, organic, locally sourced food items (not to mention, premium teas and coffee!), speaks of quality. Cynthia and Rich are super friendly and engaging, and NOT in that phony, “Hi there! We’re your bed and breakfast hosts!” sort of way, and it seems as though they would be just as amenable to leave you be if conversation isn’t your bag, and a quiet stay is what you desire. They are the real deal. They appear to truly love what they are doing, and this is reflected so genuinely in the experience we had.

The Fat Duck Inn is top notch- worth driving out of your way for! We will be back...

Wonderful place, highly recommended. Cynthia and Rich's hospitality, plus Rich's amazing food made this a weekend that I would recommend to all my friends. Inn is comfortable and in a great location and they truly make it a home away from home. Go now!

We went away for Memorial Day weekend and had a lovely stay at the Fat Duck Inn. Cynthia and Rich were warm and accommodating, and the food was fantastic. For foodies from Seattle, this was a real surprise and treat. The pictures online did not do the rooms justice - all very spacious and well appointed. Location was great - just a short walk to town. Lovely place to stay!

Room Tip: We stayed in the Pintail Suite, which was large and really nice.
