“Loved atmosphere, pizza not so great”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2013

We loved the open concept restaurant and seating upstairs and downstairs and also loved the wine/beer choices. We ordered the Lamb Pizza and the Mediterranean Pizza- and were very disappointed. The Lamb pizza was very strange, the shredded lamb and pine nuts were not very appetizing. Both pizzas’s seemed to be undercooked as they were both soggy in the middle. Hopefully everything else on the menu is good, wish we had tried something else!

“Delicious Lunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2013 via mobile

We enjoyed the variety of lunch choices and the comfortable atmosphere. The apricot Chicken Salad sandwich was tasty. Others in our group thought the autumn squash soup was quite good.

“Love this place!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2013

Have been to Olive several times and am never disappointed! They make incredible and unique pizzas with local ingredients, and I had a coconut curry soup that was to die for! They change their menu based on what's currently fresh and in season. They also offer wine and beer and do wine tastings and have a local musician once a week. Great place to eat, visit with family or friends, and hang out.

“Great pizza”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2013

We had dinner here the first night. The pizza was great. Everyone loved there dinner. It is a casual place. You place your order at the front counter and then the bring it to you when it is ready. The desserts looked so yummy. i had the Prosciutto and Grape pizza. A must!

“Patio Pleasure”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2013

There was a bit of confusion upon entering Olive. The outside patio, full with bon-vivant diners, would leave one to expect a hostess. Not certain how be seated, we wandered inside where we came upon a deli case, then an artisan bread bakery and decadent pastry case. We looked up to discover a bistro-style chalk board offering tempting soups, salads, pizzas and more. We sent a scout to secure a table on the patio. We could not pass-up on an opportunity to dine al fresco on a perfect fall evening.

The evening specials listed a coconut butternut squash soup, an Heirloom Tomato Pizza, a Fig and Brie Pizza and a Seared Scallop Cobb Salad. Not being very original, we ordered all of the above, plus a nut tart and pastries for Sunday morning.

The coconut butternut soup was a lovely butter-orange colour, with a silken-smooth texture. The sweetness of the coconut milk was matched with the butternut squashes’ own sweet notes. Perfect harmony.

The hand-crafted Heirloom Tomato Pizza was a mosaic of glistening large crescent slices of Brandywine Red layered atop Green Zebras and Cherokee Purples. A melody of just-melted milky mozzarella was swimming in a shallow pool of extra virgin olive oil, dusted with black pepper. Perfected with a seared crust edged with a slight char. There was a chorus of mmm - yums at our table.

Not to be outdone by the Heirloom Tomato Pizza, the Fresh Fig and Brie Pizza was also amazing. The sweetness of the figs melded with the creaminess of the brie and the sweet onions making this pizza more of a dessert pie.

The Seared Scallop Cobb Salad was a mile-high salad of baby lettuces and baby spinach tossed with a balsamic vinaigrette, edged with paprika dusted eggs, bleu cheese, hazelnuts, cherry tomatoes and pickled cucumbers. The star of the plate was freshly seared scallops, crisp on the outside and succulently sweet on the inside.

We paired the pies and soups with a nice house Riesling.

The patio was alit with strings of lights and small votives. Large ceramic planters broke up the space, creating cozy conversation corners. There was a selection of 2 and 4-top tables or cushioned lounge seating. Perfect for conversation and main street watching of a parade of progressive private-party attendees on the sidewalk.

Apart from the confusing pay at the counter and have a waiter find your table service-style,
this was a most enjoyable al fresco dining experience.
Everything was fresh-made, locally sourced and perfectly prepared.
A return visit will be on the agenda for our next Walla Walla Fall Wine Tour.

Ambience: 5/4, a festive and conversation-friendly patio
Food: 5/5, memorable dishes - so good, you want to test-kitchen at-home
Experience: 5/4 well worth a return visit
