I have eaten at the Modern off-and-on for nearly 35 years. It was a pretty good place to get a decent plate of beef chop suey and their family meals were pretty good, too.
That has all changed. The beef chop suey was watery, cool, and lacked the taste I was used to. The egg rolls were tough, the waiter seemed like he could care less about me or my dining problems, and the price was pretty high for chop suey.
Thinking it might just be me and my aging tastebuds, I went to another similar restaurant in nearby Milton-Freewater. Their chop suey tasted great! So, I think the blame lies with the Modern.
If you are so inclined and don't mind slipping "below the border" for a good Chinese-American meal, go to the old-fashioned place and leave the Modern to the less discriminating.
