“Serendipidy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 5, 2013

Needing sustenance on a long drive from TX to NC, we prowled around Vicksburg looking for lunch and quite by happenstance stumbled across this charming café. At first glance we thought the brunch was a little expensive until we realized the price included everything from soup to nuts and lots of charming Southern conversation too. We chose the gumbo and OMG it had a big blob of cheese grits right in the middle to kick the flavor into high gear. We also recommend the Pecan Pie..YUM.

“Fabulous Find”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 22, 2013

Was in the area for business & based on TripAdvisor reviews, went to Cafe Anchuca for dinner. The setting in an antebellum mansion is charming (ask to eat in the library). The chef came out to consult on our choices. Had the catfish with a tomato basil topped with jumbo shrimp and with cheese grits with finely chopped artichoke, spinach and oven roasted tomatoes - it was tender, deliciously cooked. All in all a scrumptious meal in a relaxing, elegant setting.

“Super meal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2013

We stayed at the Inn & decided to have dinner there too. We knew the prices were a little higher than some other restaurants, but had heard good things about Chris, one of the owners & the chef. We knew what to expect on prices since we reviewed the menu on line before the trip.

My wife had Bonzo cake for an appetizer (great) which was a very good sign of things to come. Then she had the mushroom ravioli & I had the special of steak medallions & tempura shrimp - all wonderful. The vegetables & potato casserole were also great.

There was a large party that came while we were eating & some were a little loud, but it did not detract us from having a wonderful dinner. The staff did offer to seat us in a different room, but it was our choice to stay where we were.

We're not wine experts, but even the house Merlot by the glass was very good.

Definitely would recommend.

“We really wanted to like this place”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2013

The house is great. Jeff Davis spoke from the balcony once. Unfortunately, we can't agree with the restaurant's #1 ranking. The berry/lettuce/goat cheese salad was the best item we ordered, but the salad dressing was oily, as if the balsamic had not been mixed well. The beef was very good, but it is hard to mess up filet mignon. The shrimp and scallops were way way overlooked and not tempura style at all. Mixed vegetables had no flavor and no place on a menu of a fine restaurant. The biscuit was not edible, but luckily it was soaked in mixed vegetable juice, so I didn't try. Really, who serves a little doughy dinner roll on each plate, instead of in a basket of rolls? We didn't get a starch on the surf&turf special, which was unfortunate. Really good potatoes or cheese grits could have lifted the meal considerably. I can usually look online at the wine list of a restaurant to know how good it will be. It is upsetting that the wine list online bears no resemblance to the wine list in the restaurant. If I had seen the real wine list, I would have passed up this regrettable meal. Vicksburg isn't New Orleans, but surely a house this elegant deserves more than this.
