The owner of the McNutt House provides tours of the 182 year-old home he is renovating. We met within 30 minutes of our call as he was on his way to work at the home the day we visited. The tour is an historical and humorous description of the house and its exceptional owners, including Alexander McNutt, the 12th Governor of Mississippi. We sat on the period living room furniture as we listened to the colorful stories of our guide. The home and its occupants were impressive characters as related by the owner. Some original artifacts and curios are on display and we were provided with the background on each as well as being able to hold some of them. Outside, the gardens are being lovingly renovated and some delectable ghost stories are attached to the property. The most famous is of Maggie, the little girl in the blue dress, who can only be seen by children. While the tour is listed as 45 minutes ours ran almost two hours, so decide up front how much time you have to spend. We appreciated the additional time as the owner was so articulate and entertaining. Accordingly, we paid him additional money rather than the $5 per person fee that was advertised. This is probably not a good tour for young children or teens unless they have a love for history & the interesting characters who lived here.
