“I love a good hot shower.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2012

They are in the process of remodeling. The rooms aren't fancy but they are very clean. The bed was firm and had a great night's sleep. If you are one that likes the hottest shower and pounding water to relax those tense muscles then the Battlefield Inn is where you need to stay. Loved the history covering the walls in the foyer, also. They have a beautiful staircase from the foyer to the second floor. The pool area is very nice but did not take a dip because it's the day before Thanksgiving. Hope you will consider staying here.

I read the reviews and was worried about my room for the onsite convention/meeting, but got onsite. got my room, and it was ok. It is an older hotel, but my room was clean and bug free. They did offer 2 free drinks and a free breakfast. I did have a back plan if it didnt work out. but was happy as it turned out ok.

Room Tip: I stayed above the check in area in the main hotel.

Made reservations through internet based on pictures. Got there and needed to go to the john before registering. Urine smell was overwhelming and the place was filthy. Parking lot was empty at 4 PM and full of weeds. When I asked to cancel reservations due to condition of hotel, I was informed that I need to cancel 24 hours in advance. I asked to speak with the manager and desk clerk said manager would say the same thing. When I tried to speak with a young couple about the condition of the hotel, the desk clerk literally chased me out of the hotel - thank God she didn't touch me or there would have been an assault charge. Called American Express and they are taking care of disputed charge. Went to a nearby mid-quality chain hotel and related my story and they told me I wasn't the first to have the experience. Lession - don't believe the pictures on the internet!

Room Tip: Go to nearby hotels!

Why hasn't the health department shut this place down? Bugs, grunge, maid service dumped used towels in closet and did not replace them. They didn't even make the beds. Supposedly the cook didn't show all weekend so....the complementary breakfast consisted of hockey puck biscuits and civil war vintage condiments. The poor desk clerk served as evening bartender and didn't have any liquor except for bourbon and vodka. Obviously management doesn't have any professional integrity and maybe they're in receivership because they charge your credit card immediately when you check in...maybe they' re afraid you might ask for a refund or adjustment. The Bates Motel is probably a happier place to stay. General Sherman probably burned Jackson and Atlanta because he stayed a night at the Battlefield Inn.

Room Tip: Stay anywhere else..perhaps a sleeping bag in the cemetery would be more comfortable

What can you say about a place that gives you 2 free beers each when you sign in? You know its not going to be all that...

That said, the front desk staff were polite and let us look at the rooms before we accepted. The rooms above the front desk are the "nicest" (comparatively) and quietest. We went for a room by the pool though so my fiancée could have a cigarette easier.

The rooms are VERY tired and I found two wood lice in the bath and one on my bed. I'm not squeamish so killed them and got on with it. The place has a fridge, microwave, TV, toiletries and intermittent wi-fi. The pool is big and deep (and looked clean) and there it a bar attached that does karaoke. We didnt try that as we were tired and the place seemed to be filled mostly with local construction workers who were using this place as a cheap doss house... which is what it is. there is NOTHING posh about this place at all.

My biggest problem was having then read reviews here I was convinced I was getting bitten all night by invisible and none existent bed bugs. I wasn't, but I hardly slept as a consequence. The beds were actually clean and the room was clean (wood lice aside). I get the impression that the place is little used and it will not be long before it closes. They've obviously been hammered by the opposition. Beds are not the most comfy, but manageable.

Door locks were solid. Aircon worked okay. Shower was fine (though the connection needed cosmetic work). Served a purpose, but it was not a pleasure.

"Breakfast" was bread, (no sign of a toaster or butter), cereal (one choice and no sign of milk), two muffins and that was it. We decided not to bother. I had a coffee from the machine and we left.

It was cheap and functional and you got two free beers (if you got there before 7 pm). Aside from that and the large pool and bar, its got sod all going for it. I paid in cash. No way was I giving them my card details. I was in the military and I've slept in worse places... but not much worse.

Location was right beside the Vicksburg battlefield site.

Room Tip: best bet is to go elsewhere, but if you do want to stay, then ask to look at the rooms

Ive stayed at this inn for at last 5 years without incident, mainly because of where they are located and because they are pet friendly. However, after arriving blurry eyed at 2am having been on the road for 15 hours and was drop dead tired, this stay was different. The night clerk was very nice and helped when the door keys didn't work.

Upon waking, we found trash between the bed and the night stand, a disposable razor on the floor under a bench and receipts and pockets debris in the night stand dated nearly 2 weeks prior.

Somehow it was my fault for not doing a sweep of the room when I was so tired I couldn't hardly see.

The most disappointing thing occurred when not even an oppology was uttered. At the very least, say "I'm so sorry the room was not up to standards and I'll male sure the housekeeping staff is made aware".... but that did not happen.

That's a shame.
