“Vacation Visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2014

We decided to Visit Vicksburg due to the city having such an impact in history. My old Army unit in Europe has ties here. We also have family in Yazoo City, Ms. We were getting tired of going to Tunica also and this was great in that it is close to family and afterwards, we could visit here just an hour away. We enjoyed a Suite with all the comforts of home, with a great view of the Mighty Ms river. Great at night to see the barges all lit up and traveling up and down the river past our window. Having room service on the patio was great. Staff was great and the Slots pay off pretty well! Wireless service, (Free) provide through-out the facility! Food was great! If you view rooms on line, they are just as you reviewed them on line. It is an older place, but we were very pleased. Our price for a suite Sun -Thurs was $68.00 plus tax! Will stay again the next visit. 1SG Euell, USA Retired

Stayed one night on our way through Mississippi. At $49 for a room, couldn't complain about much. Lots of space, clean, a comfortable bed. Had some fun in the casino - lots of options there, a decent size. The steakhouse there was terrific.

We had not secured a reservation in Vicksburg, so decided to give Diamond Jack's a try. We booked a suite, so the room was very roomy with a large bathroom. It was clean and comfortable. The staff member at the front desk was very helpful and gave us excellent service. We had laundry to do, and he was nice enough to call the neighboring RV park to arrange for us to use their facility. We ate at the restaurant (snack bar) in the casino area, where the food was adequate, however seating is minimal.

The description of this property as worn and in poor condition gives it credit. It is horrible. DO NOT GO there. Room had not been updated in years and smelled strongly of bleach. Furnishings relected the age and a lot of wear. Front desk staff were rude and had a "I could care less attitude". Anyone giving this property a postive review has no clue what is available in Vicksburg or any decent hotel.

Room Tip: No way here

My room at DiamondJacks was about as typical as could be for mid-tier accommodations, and was of the general level of quality and comfort that one might find in places such as Fairfield Inn or similar properties. The room was of ample size, with 2 large beds, an easy chair with ottoman, work desk, and a hutch with a non-flat screen TV. The bathroom and the room were both spotless. The beds were particularly comfortable and came with comforters rather than heavy blankets, and for me these contributed to a good night's sleep.

The hotel is connected to the small casino via a walkway, so it is not necessary to go outside to get to the gaming areas. Parking is ample and close by.

The only issue I had was with the in-room climate control. The night I was here was cold, with temperatures dipping into the 30's. The room climate control has a switch for 3 fan settings - Lo, Med, Hi - and a knob to adjust the temperature. This is not one of those standalone units as are typically found in motels but appeared to be tied into a central system. Anyway, even though the "Hi" setting was higher than the others, the unit only put out a very sparse stream of air, and the air that it did put out was barely warm. I can't imagine how this unit could have any real impact on the temperature in the room with what little air it produced, and perhaps this was just a problem with this particular room. I don't know. But I mention it here for the sake of completeness. The room was a bit chilly overnight, but fortunately the comforters on the bed kept me nice and warm.

Check-in was handled efficiently by a pleasant staff person.

I cannot comment on the room rates, since I stayed here on a casino free-night comp, but the room would be a decent value at a mid-tier price.

One other thing ... the hotel does provide in the room a price list of what they'll charge for guests who decide to take any "souvenirs" home ... see photos!

On a short road trip with a friend landed us in Vicksburg for a night. We had no reservations, but luckily there was availability. The hotel room was fine - clean, well-appointed, nice bathroom. And being connected to the casino made for an easy trip to the poker slot machines.

However, the only "restaurant" they have is a very small dining area in the casino, where we would have to listen to the ding ding of the slot machines while we ate. Additionally, while I realize smoking is rampant in the south (I don't have a problem with that, despite being a non-smoker for seven years and counting and being from California where you can't smoke in any public establishments), I don't want to be around it while I'm eating. So, we decided to just check out and go eat somewhere else. Wound up at a Waffle House, and not only was the food just right, but the service was awesome! I never realized how friendly people could be until I travelled through the South. And this place was no different.

If you just need a place to sleep, and maybe want to gamble a bit, this hotel is great! If you reserve online, or show up and then get a Player's Card from the casino, you can pay as little as $50 for the room. (May even be less during other times of the year.) Just don't plan on eating there. (I cannot comment on how the food tastes because we did not eat there at all.)

Hotel/Casinos are always nice when you take some of there money but our stay at Diamond Jacks was excellent as always. The staff is great and it's so nice staying in a hotel that's connected to the casino. Tried the Saturday night seafood buffet and pigged out on the crab legs. Buffet was great. The hotel room we had on the sixth floor was really good compared to some we've stayed in on the first floor. First floor is a little musty. Sure wish they would ban smoking at the whole facility though.

Room Tip: Room number 615 was great. Good bed too.
