“Exceptional Make-Over and Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2011

This former Wingate has been given a complete and beautiful make-over. Lobby was inviting, reception was pleasant and quick, colors and furnishings throughout were bright and modern. Pool looked inviting and meeting rooms were sizable.

Our room was lovely, perfectly clean, and quiet, and an excellent example of a well-planned remodel. It also had a nice micro-fridge area, oversized closet with safe, flat-screen tv with many channels, plenty of vanity space in the bathroom. Water pressure was fine. Wifi worked well enough for light gaming. A/C functioned well (wall thermostat). The views from the rooms aren't exactly stellar (highway and parking lot - or - parking lot and Home Depot space), but we did not care as our days were not spent inside the room. (Would recommend requesting a room non-highway-side for assured quiet.)

This HI had been open (after the remodel) only a month prior to our stay; there are a couple glitches to be worked out (one of the room phones did not function, we had a bit of trouble initially logging into the wifi, it took forever to get cold water from the sink faucet). But these glitches were minor, particularly when considering the exceptional service provided to solve the phone and wifi issues (reception host actually came up to the room within 5 minutes of reporting) as well as the friendliness and can-do attitude of every single employee encountered.

As this is a full service HI, the restaurant is open for breakfast and dinner (don't know about lunch... ). It is no less than sparkling, visible yet apart from the lobby, with an abundance of glass, bright colors, and natural lighting. Several flat-screens are embedded in the walls. We enjoyed breakfast one morning; it was excellent, with prices in keeping with a hotel restaurant. Our server was super friendly and thoughtful.

This is just a couple miles from Vicksburg National Military Park, downtown Vicksburg, outlets, chain and local restaurants. A Mexican restaurant, with appealing decor and good food, is conveniently next door.

We would certainly stay here again.

Dear goseedo,

Thank you so much for taking the time to review the new Holiday Inn! All of the compliments are deeply appreciated. We are very proud of the renovations and basically new facility we have here as well as the restaurant, bar and lounge. We have worked out all of the glitches you mentioned in your review, and are running full steam ahead. We work diligently at accommodating our valued guest and I am pleased that we met and even exceeded your expectations! Next time you stay with us, don't forget to do some shopping in our great locally owned businesses on Washington Street, there is a shop or boutique for everything!

Warmest Regards,

Susan

The rooms were very clean and comfortable. The location was very accommodating to our large group. Many eating places and drug store in close vacinity. The staff were very friendly and professional. The continental breakfast was satisfying. Meeting rooms were comfortable. The wireless internet was a little of a problem with dropped connections, but that could be any where you go.

We recently stayed at this hotel for two nights and had a very good stay. The rates at this time of year are very reasonable and so we took advantage of them and stayed two nights. No complaints about the hotel and it is pretty new. The breakfast was fine. The staff was friendly and helpful. To get to the location of the hotel is a little quirky, as you must go off on a frontage road, but we managed. There is a great Mexican restaurant next to the hotel we enjoyed. Our main focus while in Vicksburg was to tour the battlefield site and it was very good. The visitors center is very informative and gets you ready for the tour. The old ironside ship that was recently removed from the river after 100 years was a fantastic experience to tour. Go to the museum there first.

The free breakfast each morning was a great way to start each day. The staff was very helpful with finding places and providing ideas on places to visit over the weekend as well as helping me find a radio shack for some computer cables I needed. There was a brief power outage that was handled well by the staff. The city had the power restored in only an hour or so. Made use of the hot tub. They also have an indoor/outdoor pool. To cold this time of year to try that out.

Best hotel we stayed at for the price. The fron staff was excellent and very helpfull. Very clean property and the rooms were excellent. The management staff was there to help us with everything that we asked for. Best pool area I ever seen at any hotels that I have stayed at. Indoor and outdoor pool, great idea, we can get best of the two worlds at one place. Very, very, very clean. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

I was a guest at the Wingate by Wyndham in Vicksburg, MS during a recent business trip and thoroughly enjoyed my stay. The staff at the front desk was extremely attentitve, courteous, and knowledgeable of the area. The hotel services were very much appreciated and made my time away from my home and office very conducive to the business I was trying to conduct. The very spacious rooms were relaxing and enjoyable. I will definitely recommend this property to other business associates traveling to the area and look forward to my next visit.

First, if you have any problems such as aging, arthritis, obesity, or just being scared to death to fall in a bathroom, don't stay here. They should supply a ladder to get into the tub. Once I got in, it was so slippery and there was no mat or stripping to make it any better. The slick floor was another problem worthy of mentioning. On to the location...it was easy enough to get to, but it was surrounded by four foot tall weeds on all four sides. My husband sneezed all night. Now the bed...it was like concrete. I actually thought I bruised my hip getting into it! The pillows look great, all big and puffy, but your neck is at a 90 degree angle all night. Breakfast was not a plus. When my husband tried to get OJ, it was water. When he asked the assistant about it, she said, "It ain't on back dere." Okay.....So trust me when I tell you that you can do better for your money. We were lured by the Wyndham name. It is the difference between prime rib and beef jerky.
