“My stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2012

Aloha! I had the pleasure of staying at Pacific Beach on a recent trip to Oahu. In my younger years I was on Oahu, so I had a good idea of what I wanted to see. The central location of the hotel was within walking distance of many attractions and bus transportation to take me where I wanted to go. The staff was very friendly and more than willing to attend to my needs. My room was clean and had a great view of the ocean. My room was comfortable and affordable. Because of the time change, I would venture out of my room in the late hours of the night and actually felt safe with the presence of the security. There is only one regret I had about my trip...it should have been longer!

Room Tip: Ocean view, higher floors to open the sliding glass door and let the island breeze in

“Wonderful vacation in Honolulu”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2012

Great price! Great location! Excellent service! Will recommend to all my friends and family. Loved the beautiful view of the ocean, enjoyed great meals at the awesome aquarium and was pleased with its central location in Waikiki. Room was spacious and clean and the housekeeper was very friendly and accommodating. The "Aloha Spirit" is alive and well at the Pacific Beach Hotel! Can't wait to go back!!

Room Tip: Ocean front rooms are highly desirable.

“No Aloha Here!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2012

After a red-eye flight of 10 + hours from Sydney we arrived at the Pacific Beach about 11 a.m. tired and weary. On inquiring about an early check-in (reg. time is 3:00) we were told that it was possible for an extra $50. They would rather their clients sit uncomfortably in their lobby than provide a room that clearly was available. No Aloha here! Our room was quite dated and the bed hard; all greatly in need of updating! The pool area is a joke... no umbrellas or showers. The lobby smells of the food buffet. Wi-fi was $11.00 a day. The in-room safe was $3.00 a day.... that was a first! As we had a red-eye flight back to the mainland, we inquired about getting a later check-out. We were informed that it would be $20 for "every hour" after 11:00 a.m. No Aloha here; just a continual money grab! My husband conveyed our feelings with a desk manager who seemed not to care much, but said she would have the general manager contact him. The GM never called.

All of this was a surprise to us as we have lived in Hawaii and have greater expectations of the "aloha spirit" which was so obviously absent here. We had previously been travelling for 7 weeks in Bali and Australia and in each and every hotel in which we had stayed the staff/management could not have been nicer or more accommodating. After this, the Pacific Beach was a slap in the face. I will not be recommending The Pacific Beach to friends any more as I have for the last 15 years. Yes, the location is good, but this can not make up for the obvious deficiencies and total lack of aloha by the front desk management who clearly have a problem making their guests feel welcome. (Luggage handlers, maids, TV repairman were doing their best.) Overall, this poor treatment is doing a disservice to the Hawaii tourist business. If this were our first experience in Oahu, we would hesitate to return! Maybe these owners/managers feel they can get away with poor quality and questionable service when tourists are plentiful, but that may not always be the case! Aloha!

Room Tip: We were on the 23rd floor (partial ocean view) and street noise was still a problem.

“Wish we were still there”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2012

My husband and I, along with our daughter and her partner just returned after spending 10 days at the Pacific Beach-we loved it..I was a bit uneasy prior to arriving due to some reviews but the location and the staff were amazing. The indoor aquarium was always great to watch. It was also so nice to walk out of your hotel and straight to the beach and if we forgot something it was easy to run back and get somethign. Our room was a partial Oceanview and it was perfect in the morning sitting out and having our coffee. THe front was too noisy as that was were our daughter was.
Overall I woudl run back in a minute..absolutely loved everythign about it.
Thank you Pacific Beach Staff for making our 1st experience in Honolulu a great one.
Hope to come back one day

Aloha Unger Family, We are so happy that you and your family enjoyed your time at the Pacific Beach Hotel and we do hope that you will "come back soon". Yes, we agree that our location is the best - within steps of the world famous Waikiki Beach. Our 280,000 gallon Oceanarium showcasing our award winning restaurant is a delight for both young and old. We do appreciate your feedback and will share your comments with our "amazing" staff - they are a great team. Mahalo!

“GREAT VIEWS FROM OCEANFRONT ROOMS JUST NEEDS WIFI”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 17, 2012

The oceanfront rooms have excellent views over Waikiki
Whilst the hotel is a bit tired and really needs WIFI the location and value for money are excellent. If you are after a flashy hotel stay at the Moana Surfrider or Royal Hawaiian which are excelent but expensive. If you want a great view and be able to afford to stay for twice as long, this is a good option
There are free ukelele lessons each day at 4pm, and the Oceanarium restaurant with large aquarieum- divers feed fish each nigh during dinner
Tennis courts.
Pool is average- but doesn't matter when you are 50 feet from great beach
