“Another good experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 12, 2014

We have been staying at the Sheraton Waikiki for many years, mainly because of 2 factors: (1) the view of Waikiki and Diamond Head is unparalleled (you need to get a room facing in that direction), and (2), we are SPG Gold members, and this hotel has always been very generous with upgrades. Compared to other chains where we have gold status (Marriott in particular being unaccommodating on upgrades), Starwood has been great in this respect, and the Sheraton Waikiki in particular.

On this visit, because the hotel was booked heavily for the better rooms, we had some initial difficulty finding a room that met our needs. Seth, the Front Office Manager, went to extraordinary lengths to find us a solution that worked. We also had a minor issue with housekeeping, and the Housekeeping Manager demonstrated a similar "what can we do to make this right" attitude. We were very impressed with the customer service ethic at the hotel.

The hotel's location is excellent, and, as mentioned above, the view is unparalleled. The hotel has an excellent pool, and is also right on the beach if you prefer the ocean. We noticed that some beach erosion that we evident in our previous visit had been repaired; it's a very nice beach. There are lots of great restaurants in the hotel and nearby, as well as other things to do (this is one of the major reasons we come to Oahu (and specifically Honolulu) more often than to the other islands).

Some of the rooms are still a bit dated compared to newer properties, but are clean and well-maintained. You might consider the ocean view rooms to oceanfront, because not only are they less expensive, but many also have a better view of Waikiki and Diamond Head, and the rooms are slightly larger.

If you are a heavy internet user, the high-speed internet option may be worth the extra cost. I had numerous different apps open simultaneously, and the speed was quite good.

The hotel is beautiful; it has a vegas feel to it with shops on the first floor and a friendly staff. However, if you spend money for an ocean view, it is anything but quiet. First night we were placed 6 floors up from the infinity pool/bar and could hear the bar band loudly through our closed lanai door. We moved to another room with a joining door where you could hear everything being said by the neighbors and smell cigarette smoke. We moved again for our second night and are hoping the rest of the visit is peaceful.

Stayed here for the 2nd time in 2 years. Hotel has little changes for the better. Pool area is great. Location is perfect. Rooms could be cleaner. Newer general store in the lobby area is a great addition. Food and drink are reasonably priced and selection is wide.
Club lounge on the 30th floor is a beautiful spot. Being a gold member I thought we would get access throughout the stay but only received it one time. Use it for the evening when you get free beer, wine, sliders, cheeses and salad options. Plus the view is unreal and a good spot to watch the Hilton fireworks on a Friday night at 745.

When you want one of the better hotels in Honolulu you could not go past the Sheraton. It is right on Waikik beach for your morning swim. The seaside rooms have views up and down the beach and the rooms are a very good size. Typical good sheraton standards throughout the hotel.

Great vacation. Allison at check-in was wonderful & our ocean front room was spectacular. The hotel's perfect location on Waikiki Beach and the Infinity Pool with its 180 degree unobstructed views make the Sheraton stand out from the other Waikiki hotels and add considerable value to the overall vacation experience.

The hotel has a beautiful lobby, but the experience stops there. Our room was distressed and dated, it looked like a fresh coat of paint could have been applied 5 years ago. This stay was a waste of Aeroplane points and not recommended.

My family stayed at the Sheraton Waikiki in March 2014 as part of a Globus Tour. Although exhausted from an 11-hour flight, we were immediately impressed with the Sheraton enough to meander around the hotel before crashing for the night. This hotel has a striking presence – its 30+ stories tower above other hotel in the area and is right in the middle of fantastic and busy Waikiki beach – the location really cannot be beat. It is situated right across from the middle of the Royal Hawaiian Center, an open-air mall featuring great shopping, an ABC store for anything you may have forgotten/souvenirs, and a food court on the 2nd level that we used a few times to avoid pricy hotel/bar food (Mahaloha Burger!) Our room was on the 27th floor and had an amazing view of Waikiki. It was incredible to wake up every day and watch people on paddleboards and surfboards early in the morning as you sip coffee on the balcony! The room was small, but had all the conveniences one would need while on vacation (coffee maker, blow dryer, plenty of toiletries). Housekeeping was excellent. The adult-only infinity pool area was great and we had no trouble finding chairs. There is also a larger kid-friendly pool that is fenced off to contain the children (nice if you are looking for some peace and quiet). The downside – no chairs on Waikiki beach, $45 to rent for the day. We ended up spending the day at the hotel pool to keep away from the crowds. We also really enjoyed not having to do our shopping during the day – we were able to spend daylight at the pool or on tours, and saved dinner and shopping for nighttime – Waikiki shops are open until 9-10pm. As for restaurants, we ate at Kai Market for breakfast every morning. They have a very nice buffet of hot and cold breakfast items, fresh fruit and Asian-inspired dishes. We also had the Saturday night dinner buffet at Kai Market – we were told it was fantastic, but we thought it was just so-so – many items catered to the Japanese clientele and weren’t exactly what we are used to coming from Pennsylvania. However, it was interesting to try foods such as mochi – never would have done that without the buffet! All the Kai Market meals were covered in our Globus Tour, so I cannot comment on the cost/value. Overall, we enjoyed our stay very much and would have no qualms about staying here again.
