“Amazing view and impressive pools”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2012

I booked an Ocean Front room for two nights at the Sheraton Waikiki. The actual hotel is huge and holds several shops and dining options within the resort. There's also their famous infinity pool, which is gorgeous, and another pool equally amazing. It's located pretty much right by the ocean and thus provides easy access to the beach on one side, and on the other, it goes right into the Royal Hawaiian Center and all the other options on Kalakaua Ave.

The most spectacular feature of the room is of course the view. It IS an ocean front hotel, so you get amazing ocean views from your balcony. You can't see much of the beach, though, but mainly the hotel's infinity pool if you look down. For a full unobstructed view of Waikiki beach and Diamond Head, I suppose you have to upgrade to a better room. The fairly oddly-shaped configuration of the hotel wouldn't allow many rooms with such a wide view.

The room itself was quite spacious and had most of the amenities you could expect from a Sheraton. The room also felt a bit dated and worn out though, and it feels like it could benefit from a major renovation. There were also some stains on the bed and sheets, and while the place was clean for the most part, it was not perfect by any means. For the price you pay, the standard ought to be raised a bit.

The quality of the TV signal was very poor (not HD) and not that many channels were available. In fact, the TV signal went out a lot and sometimes didn't come back for 20 minutes or more (I'm guessing this was mostly due to the poor weather conditions and is probably not a frequent occurrence).

I didn't use the pools or the on-site restaurants but both seemed quite cool.

One major downside is that the hotel charges you an outrageous $25 resort fee - per night! Considering it's already a fairly expensive hotel, I don't think it is appropriate with such a high, mandatory additional fee. I also found it a nuisance that you had to check out by 11 instead of noon which is standard in most places.

I enjoyed the view, but would probably choose a different hotel the next time. It didn't help that the weather was terrible for the duration of my stay. Certainly not the hotel's fault but better weather would probably have increased my enjoyment of the stay.

The staff at this hotel is among the most accomodating I've ever exerienced. Everyone we encountered was friendly with genuine smiles.

The hotel doesn't show it's age. The lobby area is magnificent and spacious.

The rooms are less than great- little on the small size, but in this city all you need is a clean and quiet place to sleep, which they were.

The travel desk (consierge) is seperated for the check-in and bell hop areas. In both of these areas we encountered enthusiatic help.

Congratulations to the current managment for hiring such quality people

Room Tip: The 21st floor facing the bay gave a great view and quiet area at night

our family stayed on the 14th floor ocean view, the view was spectacular the room was a good size room clean but a bit out dated with the decor, both double beds had a major slant in them.
The bathroom needs a major renovation. this place has the best pools my kids loved the slide & the giant pool, us adults loved the spa & the adult pool is a great idea! the beach is just a couple of steps away. The resturants are way too expensive. They charge u a daily resort fee of $20 per day this is a total rip off as you get nothing special out of it!! just a way to get more money out of u! overall its a nice place but definetly not like your typical sheraton hotels

Today is the final night on our 10 day stay at the Sheraton Waikiki. We always stayed at the Outigger Waikiki on the Beach, but due to their renovations chose the Sheraton. The experience has been fantastic.

The location on the corner of Kalakaua Ave and Lewers Street is in the heart of the action, but as the hotel is set back from the street, the evening "noise" is minimized. The hotel has access to 2 beaches, but there is a fair amount of rocks in the smaller beach. Beach lounge and umbrella hire is great value if you plan to stay for the day.

We were upgraded to a Diamond Head Oceanview room which was fantastic. the king bed room was generous and not cluttered with big pieces of furniture.

The service experience at the Sheraton was first class from check-in through to the Beach Service Staff. Housekeeping was thorough and any additional requests were responded to quickly.

We didn't "dine" at the hotel, but spent some great evenings at Rumfire and Edge Bar. The drinks, bar food and service were all great quality and relatively well priced. We used Ingredients for take-out lunches (pizzas, sandwiches, hot dogs, cold drinks etc) when at the beach and the food was freshly prepared and really tasty.

In terms of other services, there are two self-service laundrys that are clean and well maintained. The gym is the only disappointing element to the hotel. There is a great range of good quality equipment, but you are stuck in a solid room with no windows and with equipment facing a brown wall. We'd love to see some large LCD displays with live web cam of the beach - that will motivate you to get the workout done!! There is a great choice of pools - the adult infinity pool or the larger all age pool with slides.

I'd highly recommend a stay at the Sheraton and we'll be back later this year or the Honolulu Marathon!!

Room Tip: Request Ocean view and away fom lifts

My first trip to Hawaii. As a Platinum SPG member, of course I chose this Sheraton. Was upgraded to top floor (31) to a suite. What a view of the ocean! Large balcony for 3 lounge chairs. Just can't be beat! Quiet too.

I did wait at the front desk to check in, but staff were pleasant. Very crowded in the lobby at all times like a train station. Elevators were very efficient, and place was clean and organized.

The Club Loung is spectacular with views east and west - WOW! The breakfast and 4-8 p.m. food were also good. Large, large relaxing lounge with TVs, computers, bathooms, bar, tables and chairs, and numerous comfortable couches. The best lounge in the Starwood system - and I have seen many.

Hotel location is great. Right on Waikiki Beach, small pools, near unlimited number of restaurants and bars,, plus lots of shopping.

Cost was $40 to/from airport by taxi. Rented Enterprise car just 3 blocks away. Concierge was very helpful after waiting in line to use her services. Free computers in the lobby were helpful.

Pool area just too busy to relax, if you can find an empty chair. Mostly Japanese guests in the hotel.

I definitely recommend this hotel and would absolutely stay here again when visiting Waikiki.

We stayed here for one night at the end of our trip. I wish we stayed here a bit longer. It's in a great location, close enough to the shopping and restaurants, but not on the main strip so it's quieter. We traveled with a 3 year old and 4 month old. The room we had was perfect! A king sized bed, a double bed and a small crib. Not a pack and play, but an actual crib with a mattress. He couldn't actually tell me, but I'm sure my 4 month old appreciated that! There was a kid friendly pool area where we could easily get chairs and umbrellas without having to pay anything extra. There was also an adult pool area to escape from the children. The breakfast buffet was nice at the hotel. There was also a laundry mat on every floor(I believe). We didn't get to use it, but boy we could have during our ten day trip! Overall, great experience and would highly recommend this for families traveling.
