“Great Place for Adults”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 12, 2011

We traveled with young children, ages 3 and 7, and decided to stay here since we are Starwood members. This hotel is great for a romantic getaway or friends traveling together, but not so kid friendly. Just so you know, Waikiki Beach and the Sheraton Waikiki are both very crowded and overrun with people. It's not the relaxing experience I've had on other islands, but if you head north there are some really nice beaches in Oahu. My other gripe about this hotel was that the pool was not heated and most of the guest were crammed into the jacuzzi. The kids wanted to use the water slide, but they were freezing in the pool and also getting out for the long walk back to the water slide. We ended up swimming in the ocean, which was indeed warmer than the pool. The adults only infinity pool looked great, but two kids in tow, we never got to hang out and enjoy it. The rooms are very clean and most seem to have good ocean views. Your proximity to the water is the best thing about this hotel. I also love The Edge restaurant, next to the adult pool. A great location to have lunch, dinner or a relaxing drink while staring at the abundant ocean in front of you.

Aloha and thank you for your recent review of our resort. We are very happy you enjoyed your overall stay with us. We have spoken with our engineering department about the heating of our pools and they assured us both pools are heated, however the temperature ranges between 82 and 84 degrees Fahrenheit. We appreciate all your comments and we have shared them with the entire management team. Mahalo nui loa and we look forward to welcoming you back on your next trip to Oahu.

My wife and I took advantage of the AUS/US$ comparison for a short Hawaiian holiday.
We wanted to stay right in the heart of Waikiki so that we could be central to everything. We knew choosing a busy international hotel could have some pitfalls but fortunately the positives outweighed the negatives.

The positives and negatives in point form are:

Positives

- The Infinity pool in the late afternoon is fantastic. Ideal location, great place to meet other people and even better with a cocktail in hand.
- The welcome at reception was courteous, efficient and friendly.
- The location was A1 and our view was stunning but make sure you book an ocean facing room
- As the hotel is an international hotel everything is at your fingertips.
- We had a king size bed which was extremely comfortable.
- The pool side staff are extremely friendly but watch out for the sunglasses sales pitch.
- The Hotel gym was great. New & varied equipment too.
- Regular shuttles to the Ala Moana Shopping Centre (love it!) or you could walk the 20mins like we did.

Negatives

- The rooms are very small. If you're after apartment style living then this is not your cup of tea.
- The walls are paper thin. We were kept up all night by a Japanese family screaming down the phone during the wee hours of the morning.
- While the pool is great, you need to get down early i.e 7 o'clock to reserve your sofa lounge. Be prepared to be disappointed.
- There is free internet near the lobby but most PC's are being used by other guests so be prepared to queue (And watch out for those who just push their way through!)

Overall a good trip and I would stay here again if in Hawaii.

Room Tip: Pay the extra for the Ocean view.

We had a great stay at the Sheraton Waikiki. The staff was friendly, helpful, and always available.
Any problems we had were immediately solved, and staff going out of their way to make life easier for you was the norm, not the exception. The last day we were there, the bell staff even helped us weigh our luggage to make sure that we had everything right for our flight.
The infinity pool was awesome, the beach was amazing, and the Sheraton Waikiki did everything it could to make our stay the absolute best it could be.
My only complaint was the resort fee of $20 every day. It was a mandatory fee, and I didn't mind paying it, but if it is a mandatory fee, why not just include it in to the price of the room? Tacking it on afterward seemed to be a bit underhanded to me.

We arrived at 7:30 and were given an ocean view by mistake instead of ocean front which we had paid for months ago. This was quickly changed but when we got into our second room they were still in the process of upgrading some of the rooms and this was one of them. Now feeling absolutely exhausted and upset I reached for the phone and called the guest service manager-Mitchell Rose. He came immediately and showed me a room on the 17th floor and had our bags moved up at the same time. He apologized and upon discovering it was our 6th wedding anniversary offered us dinner, champagne and a trip on the catamaran for two. Wow! I was so impressed We are both from Canada and the Sheraton is held in high esteem in Canada. so my expectations were high before I arrived. He met those expectations and more. As a matter of fact the staff especially housekeeping did an outstanding job while we were there. The staff at the front desk as well as the people poolside/restaurants are so helpful and fun They helped to make our trip a wonderful memory. I expect a lot from a hotel and even though the owners/management need to have a chat with the designer/painters of the hotel rooms if Mitchell Rose is an example of the fresh new look for the Sheraton then they better start hiring a lot more like him.

we stayed at the hotel for 8 days with a very large group and they accomodated us great! the staff is great, pleasant and very friendly. the adult pool was a life saver and a must!! wasnt thrilled that they closed the pool for a whole day for a wedding. overall it made the negatives of the hotel stay seem not so bad. rooms were nice and clean and house keeping was wonderful and very pleasant HOWEVER, THE BEDS IN THE DOUBLE BED ROOMS ARE TERRIBLE!!! THEY ARE FULL BEDS AND IN NO FASHION CAN THEY FIT 2 ADULTS COMFORTABLY!! hotel food and restraunts VERY expensive!! 10 US dollars for a bag of chips!! otherwise it was a nice stay! jennifer at front desk at night is great and friendly!!

My wife had stayed at the Sheraton Waikiki previously so we decided to stick with a hotel we were famiar with seeing we were staying with our 8 week old baby. It is important to note that the Sheraton Waikiki is a large hotel so if you are after a small intimate hotel this is not the place for you. Due to flight timing we arrived at the hotel at 9am, knowing that check in was at 2pm we only planned on storing our suitcases before going off for some sightseeing but we were advised on arrival that they would have our room ready within the hour which was pleasing. The check in staff were very friendly and helpful and even arranged a cot for our room without having to be asked. Our room was a decent size and had a great unobstructed ocean view (great for watching the turtles and surfers. It was very clean and the bed was large and confortable. The bathroom was a bit of a dissapointment it was quiet tired and had only been given a minor cosmetic update.
The day we arrived was the day Japan experienced the earthquake and Hawaii was on tsunami alert. We were advised to stay in our room and they had hourly updates over the P.A. system. They also had a manager on each floor to assist guests so we felt we were being kept informed and as safe as possible given the circumstances.
There are two pools that appear quite small but are actually perfectly sized. I reccommend that if you want to spend the day by the pool you get there by 9-10am to get a lounge otherwise they are hard to get as the pool area is very popular.
We felt we were provided with great service which is unusual in a hotel that is as big as the Sheraton Waikiki and would reccommend to people who are after a good Hawaiian experience

Room Tip: Upgrade to an ocean view room its worth it

Let me start by saying the hotel itself was beautiful, the beach access and the shopping was fantastic. We had gotten 3 rooms through travelocity, which were pre-paid for, however when we arrived to the hotel we were notified that 1 of the rooms was canceled even though we had paid for it. We were also told that a resort fee of $20 a day was MANDATORY... THIS IS FALSE!!!!!!!!! We paid the resort fee, which included a $5 bottle of water in each room every day, as well as parking fees, we didnt have a car, and some floaties for a pool that only adults were allowed to. After an hour of arriving we were sent up to our rooms. Decor was plain nothing fancy, the rooms look like they could have been cleaned a bit better. Our floor was non smoking, surprise surprise guests all around our rooms were smoking and boy could you smell it. We complained, but nothing was done. Shocker. Then we tried to access the restaurant on our floor but were denied access because we werent japanese, racial much??? We got yelled at by the food police who would watch us like a hawk when we tried to feed the 2 year old with us at the pool, even though everyone else around us had outside food. Unless you purchased it from their restaurant downstairs, which i dont recommend because the food tasted like something they make for inmates at a local prison. Pool chairs are first come first serve, and people would have to camp out all night for a good seat, although some wise guys thought they can leave belongings on chairs for a straight 48 hours and then complain once you moved it. 1 drink allowed per person at one time, you arent allowed to carry more then 1... its my money, i do as i please. After our 3rd night we noticed we werent getting any shampoo or soap, or the $5 bottle of water that we HAD to pay for. I complained, the receptionist asked me what i wanted done, hello?!?!?!? Either dont charge me the resort fee, or bring me the $5 water bottle that costs $.99 cents at the local store! Again someone was smoking next door, I complained. I complained about the smoking, i complained about the racist restaurant and finally we had our resort fees taken off for the whole stay, which we found out later were never mandatory to begin with. Upon check out, i noticed 2 $13.99 charges with a $5 tax on each for highspeed internet that i never used. I explained to the gal that i didnt even bring a comp with me and pay for internet on my phone. She looked at me and said its a 5 step process to get into, i told her that may be the case but i didnt use the internet. She acted like she did me a favor by taking off the charge. If i dont use something i dont pay for it, thats how it works. I travel quite often to hawaii and i can honestly say i will never ever come to this resort again. Not all the staff is horrible, just the majority and it really blows when your spending an average $300 a night on something so pathetic. I can honestly say i've had better service at a motel 8, then i did at this "resort". One good thing, the spa on the 4th level, the gals were awesome!!! Too bad they work in such a lousy place. I recommend reviewing your bill upon check out, otherwise you'll be paying for more then you know.

Aloha and thank you for your recent feedback regarding your stay with us. We would like to first thank you for your comments about our Spa and our location. We would like to apologize for any miscommunications which occurred prior to and throughout your stay as it sounds like there were several. First, we will follow up with Travelocity regarding one of your rooms being canceled prior to your arrival. Second, our resort fee is clearly stated on Travelocity's website under the review the policies section before you confirm your reservation, but we will try to work with them to make it more apparent. Third, the area you attempted to enter and were denied access to is a private lounge operated by an outside tour company for their guests, the area is not a restaurant and is not open to the public. Lastly, the Hawaii state law allows for only one alcoholic beverage per person at a time, surely you can understand we must adhere to the law. We truly apologize for any service issues you experienced during your stay and we will be sure to communicate all of your comments to hotel management.
