“Queen Kap- The Grand Lady of Waikiki!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013

Stayed at the Queen Kap for 14 days. decided to upgrade to a Diamond Head view room @ a bit extra and the view is definitely worth it. The hotel is dated in some regards but overall a pleasant experience for the price. Found the pool area sparsely attended. The morning buffet is nice but pricey. Try to negotiate a cheaper price if you plan to eat there every morning. I chinced out and walked up to the Safeway to grab some groceries for b'fast each day. DO NOT buy booze in the gift shop- walk to the main drag and turn right there's an ABC right there with cheaper prices. As you will see ABC stores are everywhere in Waikiki. The location is amazing- 5 minutes to the beach and the strip. Yeah there can be a few direlects hanging about that end but which city doesn't have 'em? Save your money with this hotel so you can spend it on excursions and good restaurants (Duke's anyone?) . As for the room itself, the washroom basin left something to be desired in that it was dinged up in spots, and the shower had some scratches on the wall but the water was hot and everyting worked fine. Plus there are laundry facilities on site which helped when you stay that long. I must say I cheated a bit one day by sauntering up to one of the pricier hotels right on the beach and enjoyed their pool and hot tub facilities. Well when in Rome...what?? Anyway- back to the Queen Kap- She's a lovely old Gem and worth the stay and the lower price. Enjoy!

Room Tip: Get a room on a higher floor facing Diamond Head or the Beach. The traffic noise can be a pain in th...

Aloha! Thank you for sharing your recent stay with us and upgrading to a Diamond Head view for a slight charge. As you mentioned, the extra charge is definitely worth it fpr everyone enjoys the world famous view of Diamond Head.

Most of our guest comment on and appreiciate the location and as you stated - amazing, 5 minutes to the world famous Waikiki Beach and all the shopping and restaurants on Kalakaua Avenue.

For your information, we are in the process of refinishing our vanity sinks and bathtubs, which will give us a updated look in our bathrooms.

Again, thank you for staying at the Queen Kapiolani Hotel and I look forward to welcoming you back.

Mahalo,
Ron

This is our second time staying at the Queen Kapiolani Hotel. This property is an Aqua property. The property has been completely renovated over the past couple of years - the rooms are clean, and spacious - and the pool area is amazing! The pool/sun deck receives sun up until 5ish - which is great. There is a great bar at the pool as well - and you can bring your drinks to your lounge chair.

Staff is always very friendly and approachable.

The only downfall to this property - is that they don't have a hospitality room to use for showering/getting ready to fly home since you have to check out by noon (our flight did not leave until 8:30 pm). We did manage to get them to let us stay in our room until 3pm without extra charges - but I tend to think this is not normally allowed. They do not even offer a 1/2 day rate - which most hotels do.

The location of this hotel is amazing - literally less than 5 mins to the beach - across from the zoo, and tons of excellent restaurants within a 5 min walk (Starbucks is on the corner :))

Depending on the room you get - you can have an amazing view of the Ocean and or Diamond Head.

Most rooms have balconies - but you really do need to request them at time of booking - some don't have them.

All rooms have mini fridges - and some have microwaves

We were lucky enough this time to get a corner room - so we literally had 2 full walls of windows - open them up and you get the most amazing trade winds blowing through - we didn't have to turn the air conditioner at all.

Great property for couples, singles or families

Give them a try - you won't be disappointed

Room Tip: Corner Room Ocean View with Balcony

Aloha!! Thank you for staying with us again and sharing your wonderful comments. We are so pleased that you noticed our continued efforts to upgrade Queen Kapiolani and that you found the room clean and spacious. That you found the pool area amazing, with it's unbelievable view of Diamond Head.

One of the most important assets we have is our employees and it is wonderful to hear that you found our Staff very friendly and approachable. This is what the "aloha spirit" is all about.

Like most of our guests, you found the location amazing, literally less than 5 minutes to the beach and 5 minutes to tons of excellent restaurants and shopping.

If I can assist you in booking your next vacation, please do not hesitate to give me a call.

Ron

I have stayed at this hotel before. It is opposite Honolulu Zoo and Kapiolani Park. Great location.
This was my 7th visit and they had done an astounding remodel. The rooms were clean and
comfortable, quiet, and their t.v. program about Hawaii was very good.
The staff were exceptional and so helpful during a very difficult situation early in the a.m.
I cannot give enough plaudits to this hotel staff because they were friendly, helpful and
eager to please. This is a rare quality these days. Yes, if I return to Oahu, this is my hotel
of choice.

Room Tip: Request high floor. 17 or 18 is best. No traffic noise just a beautiful view! Most are partial oce...

Aloha!!! Thank you for sharing your recent stay at the Queen Kapiolani Hotel. It was wonderful to hear that the room was clean and a decent size with a great view of the beach and iconic Diamond Head.

Many of our visitors enjoy the cool tradewinds that are with us year long, so it eliminates the need for air conditioning, although if you opt for it, it is available. We are located on the quiet end of Waikiki, but within walking distance of world famous Waikiki Beach and the many shops on Kalakaua, the main street thru Waikiki.

We look forward to your return visit and if I may be of assistance, please do not hesitate to give me a call.

I love this Hotel! The staff at the front desk Dustin and Rob remember everyone and greet you by name. The hotel is located at the best possible location to be able to park your car and enjoy everything on foot.
The hotel is VERY Military friendly and you will be treated with the most respect and caring.
Tom in the surf shop is ONE OF A KIND!!!! If you are looking for something to do in town Tom is your man. He will get you whatever entertainment package you are looking for at the BEST PRICE possible. Tom is a great source of information and will point you in the right direction every time.
This is becoming a home away from home for me.

Room Tip: Get a room with a balcony it will make all the difference.

We stayed at Queen Kapiolani for 9 nights in late April on our first visit to Hawaii. I had chosen this hotel based on Trip Advisor reviews. We had a diamond head view room on the 18th floor. This was a corner room which had 2 walls of windows & was a lovely spacious room with its own balcony. We were travelling with friends who had 2 other rooms in the hotel and they were also happy with their rooms. The rooms were clean and spacious and had a lovely view of Diamond Head. The staff were really friendly and helpful and did a lot to make our stay very relaxing and enjoyable. The Hotel is in a great location at the end of the main strip in Waikiki and was a great place to escape to after the hustle & bustle of Waikiki. There was some street noise but this was unavoidable. At the time we were there the Zoo across the road was upgrading a parking area and the truck noises started very early each morning but this was just about completed by the time we left so won't be an ongoing problem. We ordered hamburgers around the pool on a couple of nights and they were really good. Every person in our party enjoyed our stay at the Queen Kapiolani and we all expressed the desire to return and stay at the same hotel. After our 9 nights my husband and I moved over to the Sheraton on Waikiki to attend a conference. Compared to the Queen Kapiolani the Sheraton was very busy, bustling and not friendly at all. The Sheraton was also in a very busy part of Waikiki and there was none of the relaxing atmosphere that we found at the Queen Kapiolani. We look forward to returning and staying at the Queen Kapiolani again and thanks to all of the wonderful people there for making our holiday such a nice experience.
