“Great price, location”

We booked the Queen Kapiolani Hotel knowing it wasn't going to be the Ritz. Our room had a nice balcony with a view of Diamond Head, the beach and the Zoo. The room itself was clean and of good size (I've paid more for less in Podunk, Ohio). As many have mentioned, a couple of the elevators were out of service, so if you have a tight schedule or mobility issues I'd recommend you look elsewhere; we were not in a big rush so it wasn't a big hassle. The staff, without exception, was courteous and quick to answer or help with any request.

Room Tip: I think we were on the 14th floor and had a nice balcony with view of Diamond Head, the flamingo enc...

The hotel is showing its age, the rooms are tired. Our room was on the 19th floor with good views and clean comfortable beds however if you are paying for the 19th insist on a corner unit like 1910 for the breeze and the views .All the corner units on any floor above 8 are the best. The main problem with the hotel is the ongoing problem with the lifts they had one working out of three and this has been like this for some time.

Room Tip: Go for the corner rooms.1910 is the best if you are on the 19th

Hotel was under major repairs of the elevator system which made it very difficult to access rooms and was very disappointing as our stay was over a two week period! Hotel has a great location but definitely needs a major refurb and upgrade of room airconditioning, soud proofing, bathroom renovation and better lighting! The staff however were fantastic and were always helpful where-ever they could under difficult situations...special mentions to the Bell Desk Captain Mr Kawika who was of great assistance and cheerful help on our vacation!

Room Tip: Rooms without the OLD styled louvred glass, seem to be less noisy!

We stayed at Queen kapiolani for 7 nights end of September 2012. It is true what everyone says about the elevators, 2 are under construction and completely out of commission which leaves only 1 single elevator and 1 service elevator to service 18 floors. Definitely not efficient. I thought that by the time we made it to the Queen the elevator issue would be resolved as I had been reading reviews about the elevators under construction since February! How long can it take? Overall, the hotel is very nice, yes, it's older and the rooms have had a slight face lift to make them more modern but you get what you pay for. This is a very reasonably priced hotel for its location. Only 1/2 block to the beach and Kalakaua ave the main strip on Waikiki. The maid service here is wonderful, they came everyday and we always had clean towels. We could have done without the entire country of Europe’s rugby teams staying there, but what can you do? Reviews are true, rooms higher up have a better view, but at the cost of having to wait even longer on the elevators. Oddly enough, my husband and I were put in a room with two full beds instead of 1 king. We couldn’t seem to figure out why they would put two married adults in a room with two beds? We didn’t want to waste time complaining though, it was a long flight. We only ate breakfast here so I cannot comment on any other meals, but, the breakfast was good, slightly high priced, but we made it well worth it with the portions we took from the buffet. We only went in the pool once, it is nice, small, but has a great view of Diamond head and nice layout with nice lounges, chairs and the bar/restaurant area is open air to the pool area so it is quite a big space. They let you take towels from the pool area as you please, just have to sign them in and out, but we were never short on towels. The little ice cream/coffee shop down in the lobby is excellent! The expedia activity desk is also very helpful. Parking is 20$/day. We only parked 1 night but upon check out was told we owed two nights, we kindly stated that was untrue, and the concierge had no problem voiding out the 2nd night. Please keep in mind that Waikiki is a very crowded place with A LOT of tourists and shopping, restaurants, activities, etc. The beaches here are always packed. However, we did notice one day when we went up towards the Hilton, the beaches were less crowded and even a little nicer. Just depends what you are looking for. We spent a lot of time on the north shore of Oahu, a beautiful and tranquil place. Highly recommended you rent a car and take a drive to explore, its well worth it. Hawaii is a beautiful place and we will be back, most likely not back to Waikiki, but either the north shore of Oahu or Maui. It is very expensive to take a helicopter tour of the other islands or to even fly to another island, so we did not get the opportunity to do so this time around. A good option is to take a cruise of all the islands that way you get to see a little bit of everything. I think we may look into that next time. Aloha! Mahalo! and Hang Loose!

Three women from Midwest that had a great stay at the Queen Kapiolani Hotel in September of 2012. The bell hops and valet boys were great, helpful and always happy. Of course, our favorite was Kawika!!!!! They always were very helpful with suggestions for dinner and drinks in the evening and directions for outings during the day. We all felt like they truly cared about our well being. The hotel was down to one guest elevator and one service elevator. Key is to take the service elevator until all updates are made on the other two elevators. Awesome view of Diamond Head and we could see the water also. One night we watched the animals at the zoo also. We also never heard any other guest from our room and were told the hotel was full. Would definetly stay at this hotel again.

This hotel does only valet service for $20 a day. It may seem pricey, but I think the other hotels are $25 to $35 per day (if you have a rental car). The location is close to Waikiki Beach. The reason I would rate this "excellent" is because for the price of a Waikiki "clean" hotel, this is a good place. It's not ritzy or anything, but you can go hopping from place to place day and night playing tourist and enjoy the weather and walking around the entire Waikiki.

Room Tip: There is a "senior citizens" discount at this hotel... every bit $$ helps!

There was nothing wrong with my stay here, I was in Honolulu for one day so I was in and out. The room is very basic but clean, about 1 block from the beach and all the action of Waikiki. This hotel is worthy of a 3 star rating, no more.
