I was a bit nervous about coming here, knowing there were renovations going on, and was thinking of changing my reservation to its better known sister property, the Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach. I am sure glad I stayed at the Outrigger Reef on the Beach ...it was EXCEPTIONAL. We were greeted with an orchid-scented cool towel and were seated to check in. We received Four Seasons-type service during our entire stay.
We had a beautiful new Oceanfront room in the Ocean Tower and we could literally hop off the balcony and onto the sand and go for a swim and the price was half that of the overrated Halekulani next door!
Usually I am leery of hotel bathrooms, but it was spotless...the housekeeper did not use a dirty mop, she was literally on her hands and knees scrubbing the floors with clean towels. To a germaphobe like me, that was a wow factor!
The breakfast buffet in the Shorebird restaurant was great and a really good value at $12.95. The pool is newly renovated, and although a bit small, there were plenty of lounge chairs and ice water to go around. Who wants to be at the pool when you are literally on the beach? The poolside bar is almost complete and looks like it is going to be awesome!
Waikiki Beach Walk is right across the street, there is a bus stop close by to take you to Diamond Head and all over Waikiki Beach, cab rides down to Duke's were around $4 ....it was great to be close to everything but away from the 4th of July craziness going on down at the Waikiki on the Beach.
I cannot commend the staff enough, truly Four Seasons service. I lost my cell phone on the bus to Diamond Head and called the front desk because it was a Sunday and could not get ahold of anyone at the Bus Co. The front desk made all the calls for me - above and beyond the call of duty! The Outrigger Reef on the Beach is a beautiful little jewel and I can't wait to go back and see the final renovations!
