“Wonderful hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2013

My wife and I stayed here for 7 nights. Wonderful hotel in a great spot. The rooms were clean and staff helpful. The hotel is a little away from the main drag. This is a good thing as many hotels on the main road can have public access to the beach through the hotel. Outrigger does too but is away from the crowds and Waikiki is crowded. The hotel is a little more private from prying eyes also as people walking past 24/7 along the water front. Pool is clean and private, great if you have children. The only draw back was the hustling from sales people. They look like the hotel employees but are external sales trying to sell everything from time share to tours. Just be aware of what you want and who is selling it to you. We booked the Pearl Harbour tour here and it was great.

Room Tip: To save money go the partial ocean view.

My wife and I stayed for 3 nights and had great time, we had a partial ocean view room which suited us fine, the room was roomy and was clean and tidy. the hotel was in a great location to
local shopping and transport to the larger malls. The hotel beach front bar and restaurants were handy if you didn't want to go to far after a busy day, but there were many other great eating places near by if you wanted to venture out. The street night life was loud every night from our room until 11pm, but didn't worry us as it stopped at a reasonable hour. Overall we were glad
we picked this hotel... stay yourself and enjoy all the Honolulu has to offer, Mahalo!

Room Tip: if you have a young family, book an internal room... not that I do but night life noise may keep up...

We recently stayed here for 3 nights prior to our cruise. I chose this property based on what I read on trip advisor. I don't have any complaints. The property is well kept. The staff very very friendly and helpful. Check in was very smooth and we loved our connected rooms in the corner with ocean front and diamond head views. It is really nice being right on the beach. We enjoyed the pool one day and the live entertainment. I recommend this hotel and would stay there again.

Room Tip: ocean front worth it

This is a good place to stay centrally located, with very good facilities within the hotel.
This hotel has everything one could wish, so if you just want to lounge around and relax you can.
There are many good places to eat around this hotel also and tours can be arranged by the hotel run by reputable companies

My Husband and I recently stayed at the Outtigger Reef on the Beach for four nights. It was the first 4 nights of our 14 day day island hopping vacation. We loved the resort and every staff member was cordial. The entire resort is clean. Our partial ocean few room was very nice with a nice view of the pool and ocean. The beach area is clean and small( compared to most Florida beaches.)...but we were already aware of that. We ate at 2 of the restaurants on property. Both were good, but the Oceanhouse was very nice with great food and service...we had a great view overlooking the ocean. The Oceanhouse is actually run by another Company.
We also liked the fact that the hotel was on the quieter end of Waikiki. As several have mentioned the only minor flaw was the timeshare sales people. On the front side of the hotel is an activities/conceirge. Sometimes, sitting right next to them is a person who appears to be conceirge. KUnknowingly, we once went to that person to ask questions, it was regarding the Honolulu Museum of art. He seemed confused and that should have been the first clue something was up. After struggling a bit with the information...here comes his somewhat high pressured sales pitch for Wyndam time shares
We said no thanks and he pressured a bit more...we said thanks and bye. Just make sure the person you are talking to has an "Outrigger" nametag on and you will be fine!
We felt comfortable, safe and welcomed here. We would definitely recommend thid hotel! Mahalo Outrigger for a wonderful stay.

We've just completed a 7 night stay and I can't speak highly enough of the Outrigger.
When we checked in I asked to be on a higher floor, away from elevators. The manager at check in offered me three different rooms - one on the 6th floor closer to the beach but also closer to elevators; a second room on the 8th floor which was similarly positioned; and a room on the 14th floor, a bit further from the water but also far from the elevator. We chose the room on the 14th floor in the Pacific tower and really loved it. From here we had a great view of the water - think the trick here is to get on as high a floor as possible. Only small issue was the sound of delivery trucks reversing to unload in the hotel next door which could be heard from around 6am.
You do get a bit of sound from people in rooms around you but this is the case in most hotels and we weren't impacted by this at all.
Balcony was small but easily fits two people.
At $35 a night valet parking is expensive so we chose to park at an outdoor car park a couple of blocks away. Max here was $20 per night or $10 if out by 7am. We didn't have any problems with this. Valet were a bit frustrating whenever we pulled up to drop something off but I suppose it's their job to know how long you're going to be there etc.
The Wyndam timeshare folk are a pain both inside the hotel and on the street but a firm no worked ok for us and we weren't overly harassed.
Hotel restaurants weren't fabulous. Our favourite was the Ocean House given it is right on the water and there's full table service. Shorebird requires you to cook your own dinner on a massive BBQ which wasn't our thing. The other restaurant towards the front of the hotel plays live music until 9pm each night but we didn't try that one so i won't comment.
Overall we loved how close we were to the beach and felt very comfortable in our room. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel to others.

Room Tip: Try to get a room as high as possible.

The Reef is located right on the beach and is close to Beachwalk, Royal Hawaiian Mall, International Marketplace, DFS Galleria, etc. so it appeals to many different types of clientel. It has a short sandy beach with very warm water although it is shallow. Snorkeling is poor here as the wave action causes too much sand in the water so all you see is urchins and coral but you can be surprised by a few sea turtles swimming with you! BE AWARE that the card you find on your pillow offering a free gift is actually a push for Wyndham Time Shares and if you accept - free buffet breakfast at Shore Bird and $150 coupon for an activity. While it was never presented at the desk as a time share promo - "we will take you to the new shopping area and show you a nice new hotel" is the beginning of a 2+ hour sales pitch. They tell you no pressure but you are brought to a boiler room with couples all around you being told about the incredible deal they are offering you. Here is an important link to Hawaii's Time Share Promo rules as Hawaii has really stepped down on time shares and their promises. It is 2+ hours you will never get back and do lots of on line research before you go! http://hawaii.gov/dcca/rico/r_brochures/time-share-brochure.pdf
